Finding Runways, Look here

Postby OVERLORD_CHRIS » Fri Aug 01, 2008 9:59 am

Hey I was screwing around at work looking for places to fly in Flight Sim, and found this link and www.airliners.net  It has tons of pictures of runways you might not have though of, or might have been looking for.

Under each pic is the Air Field Code, and for the most point every thing is pretty close, but other stuff my be off like more trees then it is supposed to have or something like that.

Enjoy. :)

It's a great site.

We have some photographers here that their photos have been accepted to the vast library. ;)

Cool, thought this might help, since some people used to question where was a good place to go, or some place they have not gone before.

My son and I went to Speke Airport yesterday, an old fave of ours for photographs.  Its now known as Liverpool John Lennon airport.  If you go past the airport entrance and follow the white fence to where it ends, then turn right you`re in the right place.  Alternatively coming in from Hale village turn left just before the white fence, about half a mile after the road narrows where its single file traffic as a safety precaution. This is runway 27 and the aircraft follow the Mersey, turn right at Runcorn Bridge and begin the approach.

You can park in a rather bad lumpy makeshift car park and stand there to get shots, many pic nic whilst there.  Venture up the road to where the warning lights are, duck under the wood rail and stand at the higher fence behind it so you`re facing the approach lights.  As the myriad of aircraft come in, both big and small, you`ll be feet from the undercarriage and get some excellent shots-NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED!

Barton Airfield Manchester is another regular haunt for photos, light planes, helicopters and microlights/ultralights.
