FS2004 Aircraft in FSX

Postby usapatriot » Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:13 pm

Well in my other thread I've received many responses by players who have seamlessly imported their FS2004 aircraft collections and made them work in FSX.

I was just wondering how is it done. Specifically I have just download Kirk Olsson's F-16 for FS2004 but I don't know how to make it work in FSX with a Panel and VC. All I get are a bunch of gauge incompatibility errors whenever I load the plane up. Hopefully I will be able to apply what I learn here to other aircraft.

Thanks  :)

FS9 gauges don't work in FSX, because they use another file type.

Then how do you get old aircraft from FS2004 to work properly in FSX with panels?

Actually, fs( gauges seem to work okay, it's '98 or earlier taht are the problem.  I haven't fiddled with panel.cfg's yet, but from what I understand you can edit it the same way you'd edit the aircraft.cfg.  If I understand right, you'll see a "guage.0=guage_name, and then a series of numbers.  I think the numbers have to do with size and placement.  I would guess that you could try swapping out the name of the gauge that doesn't work with a similar guage and see what happens (Be sure to make a backup of the original .cfg, first!), and if it doesn't look right, fiddle with the numbers, try different gauges, and so on.  As long as you make a backup of the origninal, at worse, you can mess up the one you're fiddiling with, and have the original to fall back on, and you're no worse off than before.

Yes, only some of the gauges in the .GAU format will be incompatible, but not all of them. That means that a lot of .GAU gauges will work in FSX, and thus a lot of FS9 planes work in FSX with complete VCs.

Regarding Kirk's F-16, if you downloaded the panel from page 2 of FSX panels on this forum, it does not work!

There are numerous updates to Kirk's F-16 in the FSX Military section on this site, some panels work great, some do not.  You will just need to download the updates one by one and test them and see which one works best for you.  Keep in mind that this is a FS9 aircraft upgraded to work in FSX and the VC is not going to be that good compared to FSX aircraft, also keep in mind that this plane is free.

There has been talk in this forum of someone designing a VC for Kirk's plane, but I have not seen any discussion for a couple of months so I do not know if that is still going on or if it got shelved for a different project.
