Acceleration creates vertical graphic aborations

Postby Papafox » Fri Jul 11, 2008 4:57 am

I have two high-performance computers which are both running Acceleration, and both have the same problem. With MSFS X and SP1 installed, each is capable of 60fps and smooth-as-butter graphics when I do Extra 300 aerobatics over Friday Harbor. With Acceleration installed I had two problems: stutters when rolling the planes and vertical lines which are particularly noticeable in the propeller area, running from the bottom of my monitor to the top of the monitor.  Both machines use Nvidia graphics cards, and this could be a clue. When Acceleration was uninstalled on one machine, stutters and vertical graphic waves disappeared.

Yesterday I uninstalled both Acceleration and MSFS X and did a complete reinstall on one of the computers, allowing Acceleration to take care of the SP1 and SP2 upgrades.  The stuttering during rolls disappeared, but the vertical lines and vertical waves, running from bottom to top of monitor persist. Any suggestion for getting rid of this phenomenon? I've tried all combinations of filtering and AA.

Recently reinstalled computer:
MSFS X and Acceleration, fresh install
Windows XP
Abit IP35 with E8500
Nvidia 8800GTS 640
2MB DDR2
1920x1200res monitor

Other computer:
MSFS X and Acceleration, installed with SP1 in between
Windows Vista SP1
Asus P5B Premium with Q9450
Nvidia 8800GTX
2MB DDR2
2560x1600 res monitor

I am a frame rate junkie who lusts for the flight modeling of the Acceleration Extra 300 but wants the smoothness of MSFS X without the Acceleration graphic abnormalities. If you find a solution let me know your name so that I can write you into my will.
Thx!

A picture of what you are seeing would help

grab a snag of the problem and resize it to 1024 @ 150Kb or less JPEG and post it

and I need to know which system you are having problems with

It sounds to me like one of the issues is Vertical Sync is not locked which was a known issue with SP2/Acceleration and Vista SP1

The fix is a later Nvidia driver that has the new code in it for Vista SP1. I use the 174.74 beta drivers for XP and I do not use Vista so I can not advise on drivers for that OS

Read about nhancer from the links at the top of the forum.. Nhancer will override Nvidia as clean up the image.

If you are a frame junkie you are in the wrong place. frames in MSFS are not like a 'shooter' game and should never be considered important... if you cant agree with that, I wont bother going any further.

Its not about frames, its about resources and settings balance to generate smooth flight, even at 22FPS

If a system is set up correctly you will not be able to tell the difference between 24FPS and 40. If you can tell the difference its because the system is not running right and that is where people "dont get it" and insist on 50FPS, which is wrong

NickN,
Vertical Synch it was! Thank you. For some reason SP2 created a vertical synch problem where none existed before. When I forced vertical synch in the Nvida control panel, the unsightly vertical wave disappeared. BTW, the wave was not visible in screen captures, but was very apparent with my eyeballs.

As for my "frame rate junkie" comment, I'm really a "smooth-as-butter" junkie (I could care less what the frame rate numbers are as long as the visual picture is smooth). As an acro pilot who makes lots of quick directional changes, I need a more-responsive setup than someone tooling around in an airliner with all the bells and whistles.

I'll also look at nhancer as a solution on the computer which still has the problem, but I think a reinstall of both MSFS X and Acceleration will be required for optimal performance.

Many thanks!

Work with bufferpools

If you are looking for smoothness in operational maneuvers and they tend to be a bit stuttery or lag in turns, the bufferpools tweak can help assuming you have
