I have zilions of links where the ATC of FSX is insulted by everyone.

This link for instance tells exactly what I mean.

FSX ATC is a strong reason to sue MS. How can I get rid of it once for all ?

Take a look

The ILS approach in FSX is a trivial joke. The final manual landing is slighlty more demanding in terms of attention to be payed, above all with fat boys.

The default ATC is pure garbage, it is ridicolous like the man who developed and tested it. It deserves to be burnt immediately.

Other than that FSX is IMO really a good simulator if you customize it with third part add ons, planes , scenery etc..

The ILS functions in FSX beautifully; both representing what it should be, and how it's represented in the cockpit. Intercepting the glideslope/localizer , and then chasing it down to the runway is VERY realistic. How much of a joke the whole approach might be, is up to the pilot ...

Whether or not the autopilot is used (I never do), and how realistic it can be, is also up to the pilot...

As for FSX ATC.. sure, it's buggy... but I've dealt with real-world ATC who are worse..   :D

I have to agree, ATC is FS isn't the greatest, but it does work most of the time.  I fly IFR all the time on FS, in everything from King Airs to big iron, plus flying in the real world.  If you know what's going on, you can usually predict what the next call from ATC is going to be.

That's one of the most important aspects of IFR flight to remember (real-world too). Mostly, you listen for something UNexpected, when ATC rattles off a mouthfull.. :D

Like this:

"November five-eight-foxtrot you are one-seven miles out turn left to one-one-five maintain two-six-hundred until established contact tower on one-one-eight-point-eight altimeter is two-niner-eight-five cleared for the ILS nine-right"

Firs time they fire that at you in a busy cockpit, you about pass out..  :D
