Thanks Nick:  I considered going to DDR3 RAM but it meant a new Motherboard, which meant a new processor..... and a new DVD drive.

But I am still interested in any reasonably costed enhancement that I could put in now, while keeping my money for the big one at the end of the year.

If as you predict FSX will run up to 30-40% better with the next generation hardware it also means that FSX will  be running close to specifications for the first time.

If Phil is still reading this forum it would be great if the next itereation of FS actually improves the performance of the present version through different graphic and rendering algorithms rather than programming for another as yet undeveloped hardware move.

Could we have a tick, rather than a tock.

Phil already started blogging about the engineering limts behind the current design... its that kind of research and reporting which indicates to me the next installment will look at features from another perspective... not about reducing or removing features, but  more on the lines of designing them to function within a realistic hardware perf window.

I/We will be needing your advice this summer for sure.

Mobos, RAM and CPUs are also involved.

If ATI is as good as this comment foreshadows and is significantly cheaper than nVidia then it will be interesting indeed.

Even though the Australian dollar is nearly at parity with the greenback, the price is almost doubled by the time it arrives in store here.  So an initially cheaper card would be a blessing.
