Hoping that someone might have experienced, and been able to cure this very irregular, but really exasperating FSX crash that I get.
I use Vista HP SP1, Intel 6600 quad core, 4 gigs of ram and a Nvidia 8800 GTS. Have FSX Accel with UTX Canada and GEXN as well as some FS9 ported over aircraft and some FSX releases.
What happens, on rare occasions, is that FSX will stop responding except for the aircraft sound. No keystrokes work, and there are no error messages. When I bring up task manager, it admits that FSX has "stopped responding"...there are no error messages. I go check the Event Viewer in Admin Tools and it's like butter wouldn't melt on it's CPU...everything's fine!! I have noticed that at around the same time, the Updater Service sarted...but that happens pretty much constantly, so I haven't suspected that it is the problem.
I keep the machine updated with frequent defrags, etc. I fly for a couple of different VA's, so have FSX running every day (I'm retired and spend far too much time on flight sims) and do some fairly long hauls quite frequently...have the hotfixes applied, so don't have the oom issues.
Today was a BA flight EGKK to LXGB, then back to EGKK without stopping FSX. Actually, had started descent into EGKK when I noticed that the timer wasn't timing anything and that the clouds were no longer moving....FSX had then been runnning some 4 to 5 hours. My European scenery is all default, and I don't have a lot of ai for that area.
I've googled the problem, as well as checking the various similarly reported problems on a number of forums....they all seem to refer to an error message when FSX stops responding....I can't get an error message...that's the exasperation part, and I can't get any hints in the Event Viewer.
To be fair, it's only happened twice since my last FSX Accel reinstall in early March....the other time was after about one and a half hours of flying....although I have done a couple of back-to-back four hour flights without problems.
Anyways, if anyone has a fix, or can suggest how I can find out somewhere in Vista why this happens, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks....all the best,
Terry
