Auto Gen On/Off

Postby idahosurge » Sun Apr 13, 2008 9:41 am

I was wondering what auto gen does.  I read in a review of a photo real scenery package that auto gen should be shut off.  I have a few MegaSceneryX products, but my real questions are:

I am running FEX, GEX USA/EU, UTX USA/Canada/Eu, and SceneryTech NA/EU landclasses.  Does auto gen still do anything for me?  If I shut it off what will I give up.  Will it greatly improve my FPS if I shut it off.

How do I shut it off?

I know that I can just shut it off and see what happens, but I thought that I would get a few opinions!

Rod

As all sys are different, your results will vary.
So, yeah, just shut it off and see.

Keep in mind however that with GEX, the FPS hit with autogen is less than with the default textures and many GEX uses can actually increase their autogen with no FPS hit.

Autogen density severly pounds your FPS and Scenery Complexity puts a hurting on it, too (depending on where you are flying.) Scenery Complexity is like the Metlife building in New York or the Empire State building...with that turned off there will be none of the "special" buildings such as the ones I just listed. Turning off Autogen would turn off all of the below.

You can turn it down/shut it off with messing with the two sliders in the scenery objects box.

That help a little? :)

Thanks for the response and info.  I had been running autogen at very dense.  Using Philadelphia Int as a base since I know that my FPS takes a hit here I looked at my FPS with autogen set to very dense, dense and normal and I have to say I can not see that it affected my FPS at all.  My FPS seems the same with autogen set to normal as when it is set to very dense.
