New to addons

Postby OldReliable » Sun Mar 23, 2008 9:13 pm

I downloaded planes for the first time and tried to install them but am having problems. Only two of the three airplanes are on the game and the images and info is messed up. Is there anyway to fix this?

OR,

Hey, welcome to SimV!  Glad you gave us a go to help you with your challenges and to find out more information on how to get the most out of your Flight Simulator experience.

As we cannot see what is going on in your computer directly (I think spy simulation may be a different forum  ;) ), we tend to ask certain questions of you to give us more information to help us help you.

I am not the swiftest prop around, but I think I can make a good stab at what some of the information people might need is:

1)  What add-on files are you trying to install and where did you download them from (links are really handy for us)?

2)  Are you sure you are installing the proper add-ons for the proper simulator (for example, FSX add-ons for FSX; believe it or not, I have accidentally installed FS2004 add-ons into FSX and gotten rather rude surprises for it  ;D )?

3)  If the add-on came with a read-me file (as, I think, all of them do that are offered here at SimV), did you read the read-me file for installation instructions and troubleshooting?  (Another thought is that sometimes the developer will include their e-mail should you have questions or problems.)

Well, those are the top three questions to ask in return that I can think of.  Please, feel welcome to come back and pick our brains.  I cannot promise that I will know the answers (I get a few right now-and-again), but I am absolutely certain someone here will be able to help you.

All the best,
Darrin

A little more about your system would help. Assuming you have installed FSX have you also installed SP1 & SP2 (for FSX not Windows XP)?  One of the airplanes you listed needs SP2  installed (and you need SP1 installed 1st), and another is for FS2004 (which has a different file structure and may/may not work since "airplanes" are in a different folder. So you may have some incompatibilities here.  ;)
