If you need help with manual hovering in the EH101, it can be flown quite easily with practice and a little file manipulation to help. Locate the aircraft.cfg and copy it, then change the file sections as follows.....
governor_pid = 25.85, 0, 125.0, 0.0, 95.85
collective_on_rotor_torque_scalar = 0.6
weight_to_moi_factor=0.46
I found this whilst wandering around the net, so I`m not claiming it as mine-I don`t do that. If you change the realism sliders to about one third from the left you`ll be good to go onto the next bit of the leaning curve as follows.....
Make sure you have a good joystick, configured and set up in control panel. Right, think of hovering and hovering only, don`t go rushing off to land somewhere or whatever. Initially concentrate your mind on this. Load up a scene, any part of the airport and we`ll practise....
Move the throttle very very slowly and watch the undercarriage of the EH101, you will see it lift bit by bit and then the downdraught will begin on the ground from the rotors. Now, forget its a helicopter, its now a rolling ball!
When it rolls up, throttle gently down as if you were stepping in the opposite direction. If it moves down to fast, roll it back up (throttle). If it rolls left, roll it right (joystick handle). think of it all the time as a rolling ball you`re stood on, each movement one direction has to be counteracted with a very slight movement the other direction. Be it up(down), down(up), left(right), right(left). At the same time a slight movement of the joystick also to keep the helicopter (read ball) horizontal.
Now lower the throttle and let it gently drop to the ground, anywhere. Now, roll the ball upward to about a foot and roll the ball to keep it at a foot, with counter opposing movements as above. You are now rolling the ball. Switch the machine off, come back to it later and make sure you can still roll the ball...... Leave it a day and come back, make sure you can still roll the ball, practice, practice, practice!
Now you can roll the ball, take off and roll the ball again, feeling confident? Raise the undercarriage (I have it on a button on the joystick) and hold at one foot off the ground. Now, fly to about 5,000 feet in the opposite direction to the airport.
Now, turn around to face the airport, gently bringing the helicopter (ball) down to 1,000 feet, 500, 400, 200, 100, 50. Aim for a spot well before your landing site and keep it going down gently to yes you guessed it, one foot! Lower the undercarriage. Now, roll the ball! You practiced it, you know how to do it. Roll it to the net (landing site).
You just took off, hovered to one foot, raised the undercarriage, accelerated and went up to 5,000 feet and flew away from the airport. You turned around, headed for the airport visually, lowered the throttle and the altitude of the helicopter to low level. then lowered the undercarriage just before your designated landing point, and hovered in to a landing! Now go practice, practice, practice some more! Look for ships, buildings, anything..... one foot above a building/boat is the same principle as one foot above a landing point on the ground! Keep on the ball!
Again, my words, but not my idea, I read it on the net and its worked for many many people. Have faith and enjoy, the confidence follows!
