Airplanes in Folder not seen in selection

Postby ND6849C » Tue Dec 11, 2007 8:55 pm

I just D/L'd an Embraer 170, extracted it into the correct SimObjects/Airplanes dir and didn't find it available in the list of ALL aircraft when I run FSX.

Are you sure you used the correct file structure, and the files are where they're supposed to be?

If it is a valid aircraft with all the needed folders and files it should show up. Just do not expect to see a thumbnail image for it as FSX uses a file called thumbnail to display the image.

It's quite likely these aircraft are aliased to use the panel of an aircraft not in FSX. A lot of twin-engined jets have their panel aliased to the FS9 default b737_400 which is not included in FSX. To fix the problem open Panel.cfg in Notepad & alias it to the FSX default B737_800 or install a suitable 3rd party panel for it.*

[fltsim]
alias=B737_800\panel

The same might apply to Sound.cfg but this will not prevent the aircraft appearing on the selection menu.

This happens if you placed an FS9 aircraft in FSX. Usually the "panel" does not work ( sometimes they do) so all you do is place an FSX Panel in it and it will show automatically on the list. Then download an FSX panel for it, if available, and that solves the problema!!!!! I ported all my FS9 DH2C

Glad you fixed it. Without more information it's only possible to give general answers based on deduction & guesswork.

So, to help future readers, make sure sure any callouts are actual directories that are contained within the named aircraft dir, or like was mentioned, the alias dirs should also exist.

If this file is posted at Simviation perhaps you can be more specific so it can be checked out & rectified if necessary. With problems like this the file name & a link to the page it can be downloaded from would be a great help.
