Taxiway tex. are flickering (FSX: Acceleration)

Postby HugoCampos » Mon Nov 05, 2007 7:11 pm

I installed Acceleration yesterday and let's say I haven't been very pleased with it. First, my graphics card would lock up and I would have to reboot the computer. Then I noticed how the fps were not better than in SP1. Now those problems are somehow gone (Maybe the computer was just "tired" yesterday and decided to be a jacka**). But like with almost everything in life, when you solve a problem, more problems arise. So today I noticed how all the taxiway textures are flickering. No matter which airport I go to, they always flicker! I've flown a bit and did some missions (trying to ignore the problem) but whenever I get back on the ground, the flickering is really annoying. I really want it to go away!
Has this happened to anyone yet? Does anyone know of a fix for this problem? I'm gessing all these are driver issues but hey, maybe they aren't and someone has a fix!
Thanks in advance for any info or help!

Hugo

Try DX9 mode, and see what happens.  If it still flickers, then do this:

Download the latest drivers (duh) :P
In your catalyst control panel, or whatever a lame name DAAMIT call it, set Anisotropic filtering to the highest (16x)

I don't know why, but it seems NVIDIA cards, even with nHancer can't seem to force any filtering onto texture in FSX.  Anyway, I think only aircraft and scenery textures are filtered fancy style, however normal scenery, like terrain, or airports and autogen, don't have the same filtering applied, which may be why it is flickering.

I don't think what I've said will help tho, because many others have been having the same problem...

FS Water Configurator+ has new modifications in the works, plus DirectX 10, Service Pack

Yea, when I noticed that problem I immediatly thought about drivers but I've got the most recent drivers  installed(Catalyst 7.10). I was just wondering if anyone had a fix besides new drivers. If not, I'll just wait a bit until they release the November drivers (Catalyst 7.11 I presume) which may correct flickering and the black screen problem for good.

Oh and as a side node... don''t buy AMD! AMD cards = problems and poor performance! I can't wait for the new Nvidia cards to come out... I've been saving money for one of those babies!

Got the same issue with my 8600, so your not the only one.
Setting anistropic to 16x didn't fix it for me, allthough I have seen claims on other boards that it worked for some.
Currently I am downloading new forceware from Nvidia (released nov. 6th apparrently), and the latest Nhancer, but I have little hope for either. My main issue I am trying to fix is no antialiasing in DX10, and taxiway issues are just not annoying enough to take precident over that yet.
However, I don't heve much hope with antialliasing either. Depending on which post I read, it's either not available in DX10, or it is but my card is at fault.  Some claim I can get antialiasing by using nHancer to overide the vid cards profile in relation to FSX, forceware, and antialiasing settings, thus enabling it.  Considering I have been using rivatuner for awhile, and not nvidia's own card managment software, I would think I wouldn't acomplish anything more with Nhancer, but we'll see. Mabey I just missunderstand what I am being told.
Has for taxiway issues, although not a priority for me, I would still be interested if a fix is found, as it seems to affect my progresive taxi (makes it invisible) and I do use that sometimes in the large hub airports.
Since I am allready doing research on other dx10 issues, I will post here if I find anything on the taxiway flicker problems....
