[quote]Crudely speaking ... face the fact that warmed over FS9 models and earlier will take some reworking - and at that, by the original mnodellers themselves in some cases - to work with ACceleration/SP2 and FS11.

FOr that matter do not expect any model built to the FS9 (and earlier) compliance to be workable in the future, and even some early "true"

The general public does not expect a SP to create more problem then it solves for some.

I can see the frustration here... but it still boils down to problems with models that never were 100% FSX..  That they could be "warmed over" to work is more like they had their useful life artificially extended until FSX got fine tuned. If a service pack improves the sim, and does not cause problems with purely FSX models, I'll take it and smile.

Got to agree.  I went through my collection with a fine tooth comb today.  Some models didn`t show in the FSX menu, some of the thumbnails were corrupted and pointing at the wrong plane.  Some didn`t have thumbnails. Some worked out of say a batch of 6 of the same aircraft and some didn`t.  Some made FSX restart every time they were all selected.  The 'other' aircraft category had quite a few entries where proper descriptions and quotations hadn`t been entered in the aircraft.cfg.  All could be sorted, just not found the time to do it.  The thing is I could get enough to work to just plod on till now.  More importantly, they were FS9 aircraft ported over to FSX, if only partly or incorrectly.  Now, how does most new software stand a chance with that?

I have sorted them, cleaned up the aircraft.cfg, added the missing parts in them, cleaned up the incorrect panel folder, added the thumbnails, corrected the missing descriptions, quotes and all the other stuff.  The other category is now empty and no aircraft have been dumped in the process, all made to work.  It took half a day to do so-imagine Accelerator trying to make head or tail of these old files? I`ve now ordered Accelerator and hope the amended FS9 files work now in it, as I have cleaned them up.  If they do, its a bonus.  If not, well they have long since served their purpose and been dragged through the ranks.  Its now time to start looking forward, not back, to a time where we move on to greater things.  Something not always possible when when making everything backwards compatible.

I saw that, wait for the changes then tailor to suit them rather than guess ahead and get it wrong.  Makes sound sense at the end of the day.  Perhaps the download version of SP2 will be more or less identical to the Acceleration SP2.  If it was the same then it would be released now.  If different then any slight changes could impact on any patched software-can`t argue with that, no matter if you want to wait or not......

One more thought....
From the MS site about FSX SP1:

"........Provide a 20 to 50 percent performance increase
Optimize for multi-core CPUs and improve draw times for faster loading
Address multiplayer and[glow=yellow,2,300] backwards compatibility issues [/glow]
Offer improved realism of key geographical locations, landmarks and airports......"

First they enhance

In answer to a question from me some time ago, Phil Taylor made it clear that SP2 in Acceleration is the final and only version of the service pack.  Or is this not the case?  For some for instance, the problems are as simple as trying to change activity using the Menu in flight - they get freezing or CTD.  Now how irritating would that be? And surely would need a further clean-up.

But hang on ACES has a train to build.

If it is correct this IS the SP then FSD, Eaglesoft and the rest can get started NOW - if they intend to.
