I would really appreciate help

FSX including FSX Steam version.

I would really appreciate help

Postby Flying Mouse » Fri Jun 08, 2007 7:20 am

I bought FSX Delux and love it, Now I decided to upgrade my current system:

AMD 64 Bit Duel Processor 3800+
2 Gig DDR2 667 Mhz RAM
80 Gig SATA HDD
ATI Radeon 9600 PRO 128MB Card AGP
24 BIT Audigy Value Sound Card
Windows XP Service Pack 2

The game works ok with the above system BUT I can't run it on full settings.

I was told to change my motherboard to PCI Express and get a better card.

Now I thought of getting the following card:

Point of view Geforce 8600GT
OR
Asus Geforce 8600GT

Which would be the best, and would I be able to run on full settings with this system:

AMD 64 Bit Duel Processor 3800+
2 Gig DDR2 667 Mhz RAM
80 Gig SATA HDD
Geforce 8600GT 256MB DDR3 Card
24 BIT Audigy Value Sound Card
Vista Home 64 Bit

Thanking Helpers in advance...

This is just advice... but if you're gonna go new board and new GPU... you might as well go new CPU , too. Looks like you already have DDR2 Ram.

Right now, it looks like the Intel Core-two-duo is the way of the gaming future..

Hello Flying Mouse & welcome to SimV!
I will leave the answers to those who have some time right now but I just wanted to let you know,

Around here, MSFS is referred to as a Flight Simulator,... Not A Game!"  ;)

I have a Geforce 7600GT running on an AMD 3800+ Dual Core 64 bit chip in Vista 32 bit, was on 64 bit Vista too.  2 gig DDR2 and a Sata 160 gig are used.  Good FPS, really smooth in FSX with SP1 and some minor fine tuning, some settings on ultra, traffic level 35%, airport traffic 35%, all others 10%, water on 2 x low, FPS lock on unlimited (works better).  The settings can go higher but are really balanced well at this level.  I run Traffic (FSX compat), the CLS DC10 package and the new level D 767 plus the CLS Airbus package.  Some of the older pre SP1 tweaks are still used too, especially the treesX program and the smaller tree textures.  New Spain textures are used too.  I really can`t see a problem with the setup you describe, you won`t be able to max the settings but they will be pretty good by anyones reckoning.

I love it when people talk about swapping out a motherboard or CPU's like it's nothing.  If you're going to go through all of that expense, just buy a better rig...  ::)

Upgrade the RAM to 4 gigs, get a MUCH bigger HD and lose the video card and get a faster one.  ;)

Thanx to everyone for the help.

I decided to get the AMD K9N Neo board.

I will then just place my AMD 3800+ 64 bit chip onto that.

The board has 4 DDR2 slots, so I will add 2 gig to make it 4gig.

I decided on the XFX Geforce 8600 GT XXX card.

I will go Vista home 64 bit.

Ill post some screenies after the 25th of this month, lol gotta wait for pay-day to do the upgrade

Upgrade RAM to a 2x1gb dualchannel kit and then buy preferably a Radeon HD 2600XT GDDR4 512, or a 8600GTS, X19x0 card, or 7900 card.

There will be little if any performance increase with 4gb of RAM, I would stick with two. And there is two Vista homes. Vista Home Basic and Vista Home premium. Get Home premium.
