question for those electricians

Postby minica » Sun May 27, 2007 7:06 pm

heya i have flight sim x demo and have fallen in love with it and am getting the delux edition tommorow :) yayyy cant wait, any ways my question is , i had these 2 old pc usb controllers well one was a steering wheel , i ripped the guts out and solderd all new buttons and made a custom console wich enables me to hold down a momentary switch and my flaps close and i got this electronic key switch just to make starting the plane a bit more realistic haha, i have a total of 13 or so buttons and its not enough i want more so my question is is it possible to add more buttons?what i was gonna do is get another controller and rip it appart and by doing that i have a extra 14  buttons for $20 australian from harvey norman but if i can avoid doing that i will , i am open to all suggestions and or ideas as i love to experiment with electronics, oh yeah would like to see a few airbus planes for flight sim x made hint hint lol thanks

Yes I made with scratch stuff , Its easy you can do it , Is an interface with the keyboard ,5 pontenciometers(including for the rudder pedals),  ,some leds ,cables and a lot imagination ,I didn't copy from other ,I just saw some from another web site ,then I made it with my own idea.

Im improving it for FSX adding knobs to the altitude ,heading & speed

Go here  http://www.mindaugas.com/ if your into electronics and have a bit of a clue you can have hours off fun with this it supports about 112 buttons i think you will need the mapper, everything you need is available on this site, and you can get all the hardware you need at jaycar cheaper than harvey norman you can buy the pc boards of this guy if your not into making them from scratch.

alrot in regards to your creation where did you get your handles and knobs and such for the flaps and throttle? What i was gonna do was buy a old cheap keyboard and solder buttons onto the existing buttons infact i tried this and i had a momentary switch and it looked as if every single button on the keyboard was pressed lol but that was on a fairly new usb microsoft keyboard i had it for a month or two then got anrgy with a game and my fist hit the keyboard and the enter button come flying out haha and i broke it well the enter button anyways it still worked just the enter button popped out and was loose but i may try again with a cheap old thing hopefully i can either have two keyboards on at a time or i can get a usb adapter or i could always make  a seperate box and have a plug like a 40 pin connecter where i can just plug in when i am simming ohh so many ideas good thing i am smart ay rofl ill stop talking now haha i will try the project that chiptas provided and see how things go, chiptas are you in tasmania or is it just a coincidence that i am in tas and u have tas in your name? just curiouse is all, i love jaycar its got heaps of kits i can spend millions there if i had millions that is i am still learning i am only 22 and my dad is a electrician / white goods electrician so thats where i got my electronics flare from i guess. what i was gonna do was buy a new joystick one that has vibrations lol and gut my current one and use the axis and buttons from that to make a new console that would leave me with 5 axis and 3 buttons, once again i am open to all suggestions
