unable to install sp1

  Well,  I've tried everything suggested by everyone but have been unable to install sp1.  I generally get the "invalid function" disclaimer.  I've even seperated the file into sp1_dlx and tried but........  I have vista premium and have had no problems with it so I'm at wits end.  My performance rating for vista is 4.0, 4.8, 5.9, 5.8.  I have also installed and uninstalled fsx dlx so much I worry about wearing out my disk.  I've even searched the registry for any leftover entries.  I haven't installed the sp1 for fsx sdk yet so everything is original.  Any ideas?

I tried every option to load SP1 to no avail, including completely un- and re-installing FSX from scrath plus manually searching out remaining folders as recommended by the gurus.  Even with a fresh load for both FSX and SP1, the sim would no longer work with SP1.  I finally gave up and run it fine without SP1.  No one seems to have an answer for my issue.
