Service Pack crashed FSX

Postby Spike26 » Thu May 17, 2007 9:51 am

FSX was working fine until I loaded Service Pack 1.  Now it's unusable, giving me a "Fatal Error" anytime I try to load it.  Certainly not not what I was looking for in a "fix".  I've downloaded again from a different site and reinstalled but no change.  Any ideas what's wrong?

try to restore to a point before the problem if it doesn't work out ,your going to have to Uninstall and reinstall the game, (just like I did) Do not activate , then Apply the SP1 and that's when you'll apply the activation..

I had the same problem, so I reinstalled FSX, and everything works well now.

Thanks!  Just uninstalled the service pack and it all works again.  Perhaps after backing up my aircraft, etc. I'll try to reload everything from scratch including the service pack prior to loading my old data back in.

Some of these 3rd party planes and scenery, especially those being moved from FS9 to FSX, overwrite original files and you dont know it. It is my understanding that even the default textures that may appear the same have been reformatted, in example, what was 32bit or 16bit 555 format in FS9 is now DXT5 and other formats. That is why it is so very important to install aircraft and scenery to another location and then after checking to be sure no original textures, FX, sounds and gauges will be overwritten, manually move it into the FSX folder where it belongs.

I can see that as being a problem until developers completely switch to FSX textures and files for including things in their packages.

I'm only three weeks into having a flight sim and have been aggressive in collecting all the birds of interest (200+, okay I'm greedy).  It's been an awesome learning curve, but am learning the hard way on how not to do things, so I've probably garbaged up a lot in the system.  FS9 birds really aren't that good to bring into the hanger and gauges really don't work.  Have likewise been learning the work arounds thanks to a lot of great folks out there developing fixes.  Probably wise for me to load from scratch with the service pack then carefully load in birds I really only want to keep.

Would be worth getting the latest versions of FSUIPC if you have it loaded, I think this got updated for SP1. runs great on my system with sp1 installed.

Also Instant Scenery was exhibiting some crashes on mine, as was the FSD Cessna 307 FSX edition?
