Plane yaw/rudder Problem.. Help Please

Postby SubZer0 » Sun May 13, 2007 1:54 am

Hello again. I'm having a problem with my planes in that when I'm going down the runway for takeoff, the plane starts yawing over to the left and I have to manually yaw it back with my joystick to center it. It does it with all the planes. I just reinstalled the game for another reason, but that didn't even fix that problem. When I'm in the air, the plane just yaws left, sometimes right, by itself. It's annoying having to land it like that.. although I could say it gives me practice on my crosswind landings :D. My joystick is working fine, although it does have low batteries now. Could that be it? Any ideas?

Hello. This sounds like P-factor & prop torque effects which is quite normal. It should only affect prop aircraft & can be counteracted with opposite rudder. Try reducing the aircraft realism if it bothers you.

PS. Copied from the FS9 Learning Center

[i]P-factor refers to the asymmetrical thrust generated by a spinning propeller. It contributes to the left-turning tendency of single-engine airplanes and twin-engine airplanes that lack counter-rotating propellers.

To adjust the effect of P-factor on your aircraft

Move the slider left to make the effect less realistic.
-or-
Move the slider right to make the effect more realistic.
Click OK.

Hagar is spot on with your problem, it's completely normal in props. Just remember that prop & torque factor are much more pronounced during a high power & low speed situation such as take-off.

I'm sure the regulars are sick of seeing this diagram, but I feel it demonstrates the cause of the problem well:

Here's a little hint on how to get aircraft with high torque off the ground...

Increase your throttle slowly, but steadily while counteracting the torque effect withthe appropriate amount of rudder to keep it going straight. When you're sure that you eliminated the torque effect with the rudder, you can move the throttle to full power and take off.

As a more desperate measure, in case you increased throttle a bit too quickly, you can also try to use the right brake (differential braking) to support the rudder.
