Flying yesterday ran out of memory,

Postby freedomhays » Fri Apr 13, 2007 3:49 am

Flying yesterday I ran out of memory.
Had to restart FSX in the middle of the flight.
I have Vista Premium with four gigs of Corsair PC800 ram and an Evga 8800 GTX

I tried to change the page file size but no matter whay values I put in I get this message,

Blimey, Hayes... :o...!

Did you remember your way back to your home airfield after?.... :-?...!

I often suffer from loss of memory, and it's very embarrassing when I turn up in my local Superstore without my trousers... :-[...!

I find that a meal of boiled onions often helps... :)...!

Paul...G-BPLF...somewhere in England....I think... :-/...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Well I'm sure it had to do with the two litres of Mike Ditka Da' Coach Merlot - 2004 I had the night before and then those four bloody marys I had the next morning for breakfest.

Did you remember your way back to your home airfield after?.... ...!

I have to say after sufficient alcohol I forget even the most rudimentary skills like the ability to speak anything other than gibberish, walking etc ;D

I don`t have a drink problem, I get drunk and fall down, no problem!  I can`t remember any memory problems after a drink though.  Try taking the paging file off the C:\ completely and put it on the D:\ with a custom setting of 4605mb or more if it suggests it.  Hope you get it sorted.

C:\ no pagefile, then hit set
D:\ Custom size, enter 4605, then set max 4605, then set, then ok, then restart when requested, still do it if not.  See the 4096 reasoning below if this does not work.

Occasionally turn the page file off and restart it (once a month), then turn it back on because it does not get defragged with the drive and windows does it only very occasionally.

The usual rules are less than 2 gig memory=2048 custom size
2-3 gig = 1.5 times memory = 3070 (should be 3072 but it recomends 3070)
after 3 gig, no idea but 4094/4096 springs to mind, I think its suggesting the higher 4605 figure because of the 1.5X rule but then perhaps hitting the upper ceiling limit of the OS.  I need a drink......!

Did not work but thanks anyway... :)

You may be dealing with a bug that is related to the latest Nvidia driver and Vista

Did you just recently update your drivers or are you using the same one for some time and this showed up?

I have the latest (as of about 3 weeks ago) Nvidia drivers and can fly for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before I need to restart.   Happens regularly.  Interesting phenomenon.  Thought it might be just my computer.  Would love to learn more.

Out of the blue, but with nvidia drivers on an 8800 card I for the first time got the fatal message, out of memory.  But where is the page file located and how do I find it?  I would be grateful for advice.  Every day something new with this danged program.  I plan on a gallon of red wine as a cure very soon.

did it have anything with how long you were flying???

I've been flying the countries of Africa lately, and today on a particularly long leg (about 7 hours) I got the Out of Memory
