Can We Just, Drop It?

Postby an-225 » Fri Mar 23, 2007 2:05 am

Please? I'm sick of all these people and threads pertaining to, how crap FSX is, and how it won't run on their seven year old computer, or how it won't run perfectly with XP, when it was optimised for Vista. OK, so the FSX section isn't filled to the brim with add-ons. Give it time! It was only released a few months ago!!!  I have seen people complaining about the water looking bad, and then judging FSX by that! If you hate FSX, just go back to FS2004, and stop bugging and nagging the people who DO enjoy it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  ;)

I agree, however:
XP, when it was optimised for Vista.

Wasn't optimised for Vista.  ;)

I have seen people complaining about the water looking bad,

I soppose you're talking about me. LOL! It was actually how it performs bad, not really how it looks. It looks amazing, and on new hardware we'll actually be abled to use it.

Nope, DizZa, I wasn't talking about you.  ;) People are now complaining over how the water looks, I just can't believe it...c'mon guys, just enjoy the sim! I'm sure one day soon, you will get enough computer hardware to run it!

i agree with you, this is also why i dont visit this section anymore, since most people presume it will run at best even though its really designed to last years, so not really for todays hardware i suppose.

I absolutely abhor FSX.  Its the worst flight sim to ever come out.  It should never have happened, its disgusting the level these program makers will sink to!!!

It keeps me up 24  hours a day nearly.  The water looks superb on full settings.  The graphics are absolutely brilliant.  I now fly around the world and have sat/nav to show me the way.  I get to tinker with the settings, just like we do with our cars, keeping them in top form.  This takes so much of my time up, I never get a chance to get bored now!  I can no longer complain about the upgrading we all do when we know theres nothing out there going to use all that technology.  It was just too cheap to make a decent machine to run it on,

Well, said.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. However, no one is entitled to run down the opinions of others nor tell them how to state their opinions. If people don't like FSX, then they have a right to say so. If people DO like FSX, then they also have equal rights to say so.

There also seems to be a false assumption going around. There were people in some cases where they state that everyone must have a super computer in order to get good frame rates with decent settings. This assumption is not entirely accurate. For example: I own a Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor with 512MB Ram, and a GeForce 4 MX440 with 128MB of memory. Please note that this setup is so old that it doesn't even support DX9, yet I get up to 15-20 FPS in FSX when flying an Extra 300 over Interlaken with almost all terrain settings set to max [expect for the texture resolution which is set to about half way]. All reflections, wing flex, jetways and any other settings that require shader 2.0 support is out of the question due to my lack of DX9 support.

However, because of this lack of support, my hardware doesn't need to make extra calculations for the DX9 settings; thus allowing me to increase the settings of the scenery and weather while still maintaining decent frames.

This is not to say that all OLD hardware will work decently like mines with FSX. Every computer in this world [just like a fingerprint] are completely unique. Even two computers with stock hardware put together by the exact same company [ie: gateway or dell] won't perform the same way due to the end users' habit of putting other things into the computers that can have an effect on the computer's performance. This is not including those who also have a habit of changing certain settings of the stock computers.

Because of this, not everyone is happy about how FSX runs in their system.

I think people became too accustomed to their computers running any new programs for many years. I remember my first PC, an IBM 8088. It took less then half a year before any new programs that came out were pretty much unable to run on that thing and I (ok, my dad) bought it when it was new tech, not a year or even a few months after release lol. For the longest time now developers have been making games that didn't really push farther then what the average computer owner had. And for the longest time now, not too many people really upgraded and when they do they "upgrade" to hardware that is already outdated as well. So now we have many people running computers that are far behind the curve of what is possible and think it a crime when a developer makes a game that pushes not only (well..makes it pretty much unplayable) old outdated computers, but the bleeding edge ones as well. Personally, I welcome it. I am not worried about a game that takes up 15GB of space, I wish they would have not compressed it and allowed it to take up 100s (note, I only really play 2 games). If they are going to make a flight sim or any game much better then what we already have, it is not going to happen on last years bottem of the barrel computer hardware that unfortunately many people are using and think should run everything fine.

Can We Just, Drop It?

Ok, so lets drop it

No use bringing up the fact we need to drop it, because then someone will feel compelled to start a thread about how we need to drop, dropping it, and then another will then insist we drop, dropping it and 'drop it' too

..by the time it gets to round 5 nobody remembers what we were dropping originally and then all the threads loose their meaning, until we need to drop something again.  :)
