AIrBUS go bang hahaha

Postby trojan rabbit » Wed Feb 28, 2007 10:27 am

when Im flying the default A321, it feels like the hydraulics have failed (which they haven't).  And when Im landing, i have little control as if the AP was on, but when I get down to around to 1 or 2 hundred feet, The control work just fine...   :-[

Oh, I noticed that as well. One thing you can do is go to the overhead panel, and there are three switches on the right side...there are three in a row, don't click on the four in a row.

If you press on those three switches, you turn off the ailron and elevator computers and the a321 controls like an Extra 3000. It becomes very maneuverable.

thats the airbus for you

I spoke to an airbus captain recently who was explaining that when you are flying the airplane and you make a control input, the on board computers basically have to approve of it before controls are deflected... he said flying the airbus is like flying with the autopilot always telling you what you can and cant do - he said he hates it, and that its NOT what you would call a "pilots airplane".  :-/

A 737NG is not any different.

I read that they kept the classical yoke in those only for the sake of it and to make pilots think to have full control of the aircraft.

Bottom line: Your flight computer is smarter than you and you can't run away from it. ;)

I'm pretty sure they are. 737NG's don't have FBW.

Not real FBW, but more electronic control elements than you might think.

Red AP DISC switch - one thing i love about the SAAB

you hit that switch your now basically in a big cessna 172 and its all your baby

If 737s have similar flight computers to the airbus i must say they are much more responsive, every time i jump seat on a 737 its usually hand flown to at least 7 to 10 thousand feet and its very responsive, unlike the airbus where everything seems like its delayed - i have personally flown neither aircraft, just speaking from observations of and discussions with those who have flown them. you move the yoke left in a 737 the reaction is virtually immediate... do it in an airbus there is like a 2 second delay.

to each his own i guess, i'm the kind of pilot who does not wish to become over reliant on gadgets and techno-crap they fill some of these airplanes with.

give me the standard 6 instruments, some engine instruments, power levers a yoke and a chart and lets roll.  ;D
