Hands-free panning using a webcam

Postby wobbie » Wed Dec 13, 2006 1:38 am

I cheap alternative for IRTracker!..
Do a web search for "visualmouse" It works very well in FSX. Also look at http://www.efmer.eu/  Both of these are free but I have not tried the latter yet. I also downloaded intellipoint 5.5 mouse driver from Microsoft. This can be used with ANY mouse. It allows you to allocate any mouse button for any application. I set the middle mouse button for Shift-O. So in the VC, press the mouse button and you have full mouse panning. It works well with visualmouse. These programs give you left/right and up/down movement, but no in/out. But what the heck, it's free!

Gave it a try and i must say it works pretty well, when you are facing the webcam that is. I still prefer my TIR over this though. But the mouse emulation seems to work better on this one.

A word to the wise: stay away from eFMer, it just doesn't work. I installed it, ran it, it kept crashing and restarting, crashing and restarting, and all the time it was displaying error messages about the lack of an .xml file and about me living in a country in which the use of this software was prohibited. Please note that I am in Italy, and that the web site says "If you live in The Netherlands, Germany or Belgium you are not allowed to download this program" (for whatever reason). Quitting the program did not release it from memory. When uninstalling, at first I didn't find the uninstaller because it was named "Program version 1.01 beta".
A sad joke, stay away from it.  :-X

If you live in The Netherlands, Germany or Belgium you are not allowed to download this program.

May I ask why?

Don't like Germans?

Before answering this question, please remember to answer it carefully. Bjorn does drive a huge metal thingy with a long, round tube that can eject deadly objects real quick. ;D

No problem with Germans :). Track! together with FSX can be used without restrictions. (in any country)
See readme after installation.
Restriction only apply in applications other than simulation and gaming. e.g. for the disabled
