Slow framerate? My ancient PC runs it fine!

Postby captainnathan » Sun Feb 25, 2007 10:37 am

seeing as seemingly EVERYBODY is complaining about the speed of FSX, I was kinda dubious when I downloaded the demo. I mean, my PC is pretty dated now, and so if people with brand new machines are complaing, what chance did I have?

Well, I was pleasantly surprised. It runs at a perfectly acceptable framerate, and apart from the VERY occasionaly slight stutter, is silky smooth with everything set between medium and medium high, accept the aircraft which was set to ultra high.

So, what's the spec of my machine?

Windows XP on a:
40gb ATA100 HDD
Athlon 2000+ XP (that's 1.6ghz)
1gb PC2700 DDR RAM (cas of 3, so not high quality stuff either)
GeForce 5700Ultra

Seriously, either new graphics cards are WORSE than the very dated 5700ultra or you guys are really making a mince when setting up your PC. The above specs are standard and NOT overclocked either.

I really can't see how it can be running badly on machines that are twice the spec of mine?

I just need some money to go buy the full version now. :(

I had the same thing happen with the demo, with my 8 YEAR OLD computer  ::), but when I got the full version it sucked.  :'(
But my computer is 8 years old so, maybe you will do better.

Until you try to run it in a large city you really cant base it off of anything. Just because you can run FSX on an island isn't saying much    :P

Bill Gates dies and fronts up to the pearly gates....

St Peter: Well, you've got a choice. Have a look around here. Pop down to Hell and see what Satan has to offer. Check us out, and then let me know your decision.

Bill has a look around heaven. Lots's of sombre people, very quiet, peaceful but a bit boaring and there are no computers. He goes down to Hell. There are beautiful beaches, lots of sun, sand, attractive women (and a lot of C and Basic :-). Long cool drinks that never get you drunk. He loves it. He goes back to St Peter.

Gates: Look, I know you're really doing good things here, but Hell seems more with it. More my kind of scene, you know what I mean? No hard feelings, but I pick Hell.

St Peter: No worries. You've got it.

2 Days Later:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bill finds himself back in Hell, by this time he is neck deep in fire and brimstone, suffering eternal torment. He sees St Peter pass by.

Gates: Hey! St Peter! Where are the beautiful girls and long beaches and cool drinks?

St Peter: Sorry if you got confused, that was just the demo version.

Now try fs9 with some payware and compare it to fsX. Some people find a modded fs9 better, others like fsX. I like and use both.
