As a reference, I boot Windows and run with a total of 27 processes, none of which are memory/CPU hogs and that includes NOD32 antivirus.
My start system was cleaned some time ago with help from NickN and is primed for maximum performance.
Only essential programs are allowed to boot with Windows and the rest are activated manually as needed such as IM or chat junk.
Even a few of the Nvidia drivers were removed from my startup because they are un-needed such as the Nivida monitor software Nview Desktop Manager which is only requires if you use multiple monitors and rotate the images. Cleaning the statup system and setting up Windows to reserve memory resources as NickN outlined in his optimizing thread makes a huge difference.

I've got my processes trimmed down to 21 (including Antivir) right after boot-up.
If I need some networking processes, I just enable/disable them via a batch file.
Also, one click terminates my Antivirus program. My start system was cleaned some time ago with help from NickN and is primed for maximum performance.
Mine too. For example I don't use the default shell anymore, but a lean one instead. But that's more for the looks instead of the performance (1Mb Ram usage; default explorer 20Mb).Only essential programs are allowed to boot with Windows and the rest are activated manually as needed such as IM or chat junk.
Aye. Same for services (see above).
Right after boot-up, my XP uses a maximum of 200Mbytes of Ram.
And I doubt that Vista can ever be that small.Even a few of the Nvidia drivers were removed from my startup because they are un-needed such as the Nivida monitor software Nview Desktop Manager which is only requires if you use multiple monitors and rotate the images. It does. Plus, keeping your system clean helps as well.
Interesting the Core2 response to manually manipulating affinity.
Memory leak comes from switching to windows mode or from windows to full screen mode. There is a bug with FSX and MS is aware of it.
Return to Flight Simulator X (FSX) and Steam
