Hey guys and gals,I am new here but I have been coming to this site since last June when I first picked up fs2004,I started way back when when I was 11 I think on fs5.1 and now I run FSX on my crappy computer but I really enjoy it.Anyhow I was reading this thread on bird strikes and right away I thought of the movie "The Edge" when the plane hits the bird (or if you prefer the other way around) and goes down in the lake after hitting the bird and then the mountain.I'm not going to go into it because most people have seen it but I was just thinking if a real life bird strike is anything like the movie,I would not like to be involved in one,it was a small plane mind you, but still it looks like it is a bad thing no matter what the size of the plane is.Sorry about my rambling on here but I just thought I would add to this thread, anyhow you all seem like a friendly bunch of people and I really like this site.

I have seen that movie.  Since you already mention the birdstrike, its not really a spoiler anymore,  but its not just one bird that they strike, its a small flock, hence why it takes the out of the sky.  I think the pilot takes one in the face.

It is actually a good film, if anyone gets a chance.  Has several elements of good story telling, and charatchters with depth. All of the classic conflicts are present, man against man, man against nature, man against himself.  I'll stop here before I turn this thread into a film review.

It's a simple question of weight ratios. A 5oz bird could not carry a 1lb coconut!

Great movie!

I know, off topic, sorry for, I just couldn't help it.

What really needs to be implemented are ground strikes with wild animals. I know i've logged not quite 100 hours as a real pilot, so I really havn't come close to any birds while inflight. I have had a couple near misses with animals. While taxiing, a deer ran out in front of me, causing me to slam the brakes. Another time, a dog ran out in front of me.

While flying around Alaska, it would be realistic to have to check for herds of elk, deer, or moose before landing on a grass strip ;)

In one of the early missions, the "Mountain Flying" I beleive, they have an animal walking across the grass runway as you are on approach.
