important question!

FSX including FSX Steam version.

important question!

Postby Airshow_lover » Sat Jan 06, 2007 11:51 pm

Ok, recently, my computer crashed. it wasn't caused by FS.

When I got it back up and running, and tried flying fsx, it said the fsx.cfg file was now corrupted.

Now, I have a copy of the program on my other desktop and I'm trying to locate the .cfg file and copy it to the one without. I'd normally justre install with the same registration number....but I've lost it. :-[

Now, I need to know where the heck that fricken .cfg file is. I can't locate the fricken thing! (yes, I'm a bit mad)

so, anyone know where this is? Will that even work? Will I lose any info doing this?

Thanks,

ASL

Delete it, load FS, and a new CFG file should magicly appear.  Unfortunately your settings will need to be reset.  ;D  Hope it works the same as FS9 does.  good luck!

Oh make a backup -just in case-  :D

as was pointed out in the second post.... things such as the game config and other such critical game componates ... when deleted... will reload when the game is restarted...

but there has to be no duplicate... if an altered Config is present... it will read that... you must delete it.

which is MS way of helping out us typing monkeys....  who are prone to making mistakes, deleting importiant stuff, or failing to read read-me's   :)

so...you're saying it won't work?

the thing is, I can't get FSX running (for reasons wentioned in my first post), therefore, I can't restart it.

FSX registration appears to be acomplished through a few DLL files in the main FSX folder. So, creating a new CFG will not affect the registration at all. :)

You can migrate a config file but if you do the sim may rewrite the display adapter area of the file if the drivers or the video card were replaced. If not, the sim should recognize the adapter lines in the config. It is usually best to edit the old lines out should a new adapter be written to the file after driver changes or a hardware change.

The config file has nothing to do with registration or activation. That is a different system and requires the program be correctly activated again each time FSX is reinstalled.
