DX10 cards+physics cards= great fsx performance?

Postby omar777 » Thu Sep 21, 2006 5:54 pm

I dont know anyone who has the Ageia Physixs card and was trying to find reviews on them, so far no luck. Does anyone know if having one will make fsx run smoother (yes, horrible question cos its not even out)? but if anyone has seen improvement with current games with this card, let me know.

Not by a whole lot, so far, from what I have seen, the Ageia just takes [alot] of the strain off of your processor...

...and there really isn't too much physics involved with FS, it's all "Weeee....it goes forward"

haha. that is true. its a shame that there isnt much physics involved.
If the ageia card takes off a lot of there strain off the processor, what is the use of dual-core processors? i mean FSX will be able to use them much better than FS9 but would it be worth it?

Software need to be programmed to take advantage of the physics card. I think the only game that supports it is Ghost Recon.

The "only" game? Are you saying that there's only one game in the entire gaming market that supports Physix cards? I doubt that. :o

Well, there may be some other games currently in developpment that would support those cards, but I highly doubt it.

The fact is that when you develop a game, the physic engine is really a big part of it. If you choose to use those cards, then that means that you won't implement a physic engine and rely on those cards, but what if a player doesn't have this kind of card ? Is there some equivalent to the DirectX software graphic mode ? Then how poor would be the performance in that case ?

I think that most of the developpers prefer to keep full control on their physic engine, the way it is implemented, the way it interact with the rest of the program, the way it works. I am pretty pessimistic on this PhysX stuff to be honnest.

If I recall, people were also pessimistic 20 years ago about how advanced our computers would become. ::)

There are more games.

www.ageia.com  is the home site.

The PhysX card is designed to do processing for not-so important things which people would like to look real, e.g. flying debris, fires, water, particles in general.

The website (above) is the home site, and has flash demos, and a list of games which use the card.

FS Water Configurator+ has new modifications in the works, plus DirectX 10, Service Pack
1, and Radeon HD 3+ Series support.

Physics cards only work in some games NOT fsX. Also you get great performance on current DX9 cards ;)

so limited game titles that support ageia. Isnt it just like how DX10 will be at first?

I think we should all wait at least 12 months before spending pots of money on expensive cards with "untested"  graphics. In that I mean we will have "Vista" and then DX10 (nobody knows exactly how DX10 will work - only what is planned and hoped for!"

We should wait for 2nd generation video cards and motherboardsand m(qualcosa)s having amended a few of the thousands of bugs "Vista" is bound to be shipped with (Remember that XP was sold with 33,000 known bugs- for  non of which were we  offered a discount !!!)

I was kinda' wondering that myself.  Or to Linux on the PC platform.  Why contribute money to someone you apparently hate so much?

Not to mention........ maybe change to X Plane too?

I don't undetrstand  ???

best,
