FS2004 Real Environment Pro vs. Active Sky 6

Postby Capt.Propwash » Sun Mar 29, 2009 2:02 pm

At current I have Real Environment Pro for FS9 / 2004, but I was just wondering which would really be better??  Active Sky? or Real Environment Pro?

I love the new textures that I get with R.E.P. like the new wet runways, or snow covered runways, and the new water textures, and clouds..... but I was just wondering what Active Sky really offered such as a customizable weather feature to where you could see more of a Cumulous-Nimbus cloud that is like 10,000 feet tall and very dangerous looking?? or other weather patterns such as a possible hurricane if you get all the winds blowing in the right direction to simulate the clouds are turning in a circle????

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Active sky itself is just a weather engine I think, and will use your default FS9 textures for the clouds.

Active Sky graphics (I think it's called) has new textures and is bundled with Active Sky 6.

It's fantastic I think, but not as good as Flight Environment, which is the best in my opinion, and worth shelling out extra $$$ for.

Better than RE pro though yes.  :)

I dont know how well you could tell the difference in Active Sky or really the sky conditions in my video, but if you could take a look at it and let me know what you think, Clouds and water at least I would appreciate it...... in order to say that I should uninstall R.E.P. and go with Flight Environment, or just stay with R.E.P.

Activesky 6.5 comes with new textures....if you want to use them.  You don;t have to.  I have ActiveSky 6.5 for the weather engine itself (amazing) and Flight Environment for the sky and cloud testures (like them better).  Both are payware.

best,
