Help with a download

Postby olderndirt » Mon Mar 02, 2009 4:13 pm

Been trying to successfully download the Globe Swift, FS2004 props P30 but it's a little non-standard and has me completely outfoxed.

Use the same method you did for the Cessna 140. Once you find a way that suits you, stick to it.

PS. I just downloaded the file to check it out. It's a little more complicated than the Cessna as it contains 4 versions of the Globe Swift & a Jeep plus some scenery. To install the aircraft extract the zipfile named

It appears we won't be "flying" the Swift.

Oh dear. I'm disappointed in you. It's really no different from the Cessna we installed the other day. What makes it more confusing is the way the file has been configured by whoever uploaded it.

Please have another go. I'll try to explain it a little better.

When you've extract the downloaded file (Swiftfix.zip) you should have a folder named Swiftfix. Inside that is yet another folder with the same name, SwiftFix. (Note the upper case letter F.)
Open the second folder & you should see two further zipfiles named SwiftFix.zip & RdsTaxi4.zip.
Forget RdsTaxi4.zip & extract SwiftFix.zip.
Now follow the instructions in my previous reply.

Hope that helps. It's not you, it's the others. ;)

Gave it my all, or as close to all as I can get and finally have three Swift variations.

That's more like it. Excellent! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

You were unlucky with this one so don't let it put you off. They all vary but fortunately most downloads should be much easier to figure out.

Finally got three little Swifts and a red Jeep - don't ask. Lines up for takeoff but no panel and nothing when I open the throttle.

Ah, you didn't tell me that. You obviously didn't follow my instructions to install the gauges. I said:
Paste the contents of the Aircraft folder to your FS9\Aircraft folder.
The contents of the effects folder to FS9\Effects
The contents of the gauges folder to FS9\Gauges

The folder named gauges included in the download contains 6 gauges. These are the 4 files & 2 folders* shown in my shot below. (Forget the zipfile, I have no idea what that's doing there. ::))

Image

To install the gauges paste the 4 files + 2 folders into your FS9\Gauges folder.

*These folders are what's known as XML gauges.

Was so pleased to have the three swift variations, all with panels & gauges, I just stopped while I was ahead.

Glad to hear you got it going....did you manage to get that little rocket back down to terra firma, I've found that no matter what I do at touch-down it bounces and bounces and bounces  :o .Like I said earlier Bill Lyons has some really nice birds, and I would suggest using the search function in the download area here at simv.....most of his planes have installers which will make installation.........painless  ;)

The Jeep is in there as another aircraft - as I said, don't ask.

That's exactly how it should be. Bill Lyons often adds these little extras with his aircraft.

[quote]Did I mention I ended up pasting all the individual gauges to the addon F16 panel.

It squatted OK but is perhaps a better wheel lander where runway length's no constraint.
