Planning Short Flights

Hi Again

Is there a way (or a 3rd party flight planner) that I can use to search for flights based on distance? Sometimes I just need to fly short flights (200nm or less) just for fun, but it's a hassle trying to guess short distance flights using the FS Flight planner. All help would be appreciated, Thanks.

In FS2004 I use FSNAVIGATOR unfortunately you can no longer get a license for it. But find a good atlas one that shows airports. I use one myself, Granted every now and then FS does not have the airport. But not that often. 8-)

go here and try it, its real easy, and you can check altitues along yoru flight path also too.

There is no doubt that FS Navigator is the best thing since the invention of sliced Bread.... ...!

(I purchased it when it was first released, together with its Key).

If it wasn't for FS Navigator, I don't think I would have been using all the versions MS Flight Simulator since FS '98...and the reason why most Multiplayer Flight Simmers that you regularly see on line, still use FS 2002/2004!... ...!

...FS Navigator was never developed for FSX...which is one of the many reasons why I don't use my copy of FSX......!

...My versions of FS Navigator are stored safely on CD's, together with their Keys... ...!

It's an excellent flight planning tool  8-)

I've even used it for quick, real-world flight planning  :)


Just don't use it for actual navigation (as in, don't run it while in flight), because if you DO run it in flight.. you AREN'T navigating  ;)

Because they're NAVIGATING, and not just looking at a moving map ?

And wouldn't it be MORE fun to say..

"Roger that, I'll turn 330 to intercept that radial.. lunch is on me !"

Instead of just seeing where you (and they) are, and watching your progress on a moving map ?

I just stay close enough to Paul's plane that I don't need the map, or have to ask.

I know, I know... everybody has to sim the way they enjoy it most..  more power to ya  :)

But when a new simmer shows enough interest , to want to learn flight-planning.. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume they'd want to lear how to navigate too..

That's the only reason I chime in on these threads..  :)

Not a new simmer, but I've been going through your lessons down below, I figured after all these years, it's about time I learned what all the switches and dials do and how to use them properly.

 I've discovered, that planning a flight, can be a lot harder than actually doing the flight. Especially if you are going for a maximum level of realism. It's given me a whole new appreciation for those who have real world pilots licenses. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

My joy of MS Flight Simming since FS '98 has always been in using General Aviation Piston Props, with their associated pre-flight routines, flight planning, flight characteristics, instrument scanning, engine management, flight controls, and Radio, etc, navigation, etc...

Lots of fun...

...and which has served me very well for real Flights in similar aircraft... ...!

Paul..G-BPLF..and Cessna 150/152 enthusiast... ...!

...after 10+ years, I can navigate California blindfolded now... ...!

I've come close, still taking baby steps with the process, as I have a TON of bad habits to break, I still get a big smile on my face when I plan a flight and just get close enough that I get a visual on the airport.


 I always use the real world weather, just makes it a nice surprise when flying anywhere, that in itself can be a challenge if you were not prepared to be dropped in a zero visibility situation.
