using a widescreen monitor

Postby VFRintoIMC » Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:06 pm

I just started using a widescreen 22-inch monitor with FS2004 instead of the standard 4:3 17-inch screen I had been using. At the regular base rez which I believe is 800 by 600 at 16-color depth the image is stretched out horizontally. This is with a DVI connection, BTW.

Trying all the other higher resolutions has resulted in a screen with large amounts of black border space above, below and to the sides of the FS screen image.

So, is there any way to have the inherent 4:3-shaped FS screen, having the image go all the way to the top and bottom on the widescreen (16:9) monitor and with windowbox bars (bars on the left and right hand edges)?

I'm assuming that you are testing out the resolutions while actually flying in game? I also get the deep borders just when in the various menus in FS2004 before I actually fly, but in the sim itself, everything is full screen and just fine. I use my highest resolution available. You may get some 2d panel stretching, but that is to be expected with a widescreen.

It may help to know what type of graphics card and what specific monitor you have if these issues are occurring when you are actually flying.
I use an Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT, with a Samsung 22'' wide screen and have experienced zero problems while in the actual simulation other than not being able to use that addon bloom effect for 2004.

You need to use one of the widescreen resolutions in FS9 display settings. Mine is set at 1440 x 900 which is the native resolution for my monitor. Everything will display correctly except the gauges on 2D panels which are stretched to fit making them slightly elliptical.

You might also need to adjust your monitor display in 3D (Full Screen Mode). This is separate from the Desktop. I don't recall having to do this on mine.

Yep, I agree with Doug; I was a little worried when I got my new monitor, but set at 1440x900 in FS, (the same as the highest native resolution of the monitor), everything's fine. Same with my laptop; set at the native max resolution of 1280x800, no problemo. Even the 2D panel looks better when it's stretched out slightly!
