What are those things?

Postby homebrewer » Sat Oct 18, 2008 6:21 pm

Downloaded and installed the Orion spaceship from the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" from fsimzone.com or something like that. I get these crazy "panel" thingies flyin' along with the ship. What are they? The ones on the sides show up in the Create a Flight graphic (as dark bands) where the airplane rotates on its axis...

Those appear to be Monoliths.  Are their dimensions 1 x 4 x 9?

It isn't 1 x 4 x 9, it's 1

Hammerhead is an incomplete FS2002 model. I don't do 2002 models anymore. The landing gear never shows up. I hate that...

This one works fine.

For some earlier FS2002 aircraft you will get this message on selecting the aircraft in FS9.
Image

Click the No option for animations like retractable gear to display. If you already clicked Yes that will involve a simple edit of fs9.cfg to put right. This is a typical example. The name of the aircraft is twncom. Change the 0 to 1.

[FrameCallNoWarn]
twncom=0

Well, yes, it needed work, but it works for me in FS9 and FSX.  I had to add a few things, like sound and gauges, and effects, and it still needs some tweaks in the .cfg (it kind of floats: after you land, and it uses the Jupiter 2 .air file, which probably accounts for some of the "floatyness", and makes it difficult to land (Especially in the hanger bay of the Galactica!  Wee-ooou!!)

On the other hand, it'll zip along a close to 1800+ IAS at tree-top level.  What's not to love?  :D

You guys are much, much better at manipulating these things than I am. I am so askeered to do things to the .cfg files, that If the airplane doesn't go in smooth as silk, I delete it and move on...
