All my Garmin GPS 500 screens have blank displays.

Postby Russell » Thu Sep 11, 2008 12:45 am

I have more than 1,000 aircraft installed, and most of them utilize the Garmin GPS 500. Yesterday, I installed a newly revised Space Shuttle, and the instructions called for the modification of the panel.cfg, etc. Now, all of a sudden, I've lost my gps displays on all of my aircraft, including the new Space Shuttle installation. I deleted the Space Shuttle, and I went into the FS2004 Gauges folder, and I tried to get rid of the gauges that came along with the Space Shuttle. I've even tried re-installing the Garmin GPS gauge "cab" suite. So far, no luck............ This happened to me once before, years ago. It was something simple, but I was not computer literate in those days. Someone in a forum solved my issue. I cannot remember the details, so I guess I'm still not computer literate, ( years later ), and I still need HELP! ........ Please help me. Thank you............

Are the battery and avionics switches ON?

Editing 1 panel.cfg shouldn't effect other aircraft.

Can you give links to the Shuttle download(s)? We could look at it to see what else it might have changed.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Sounds like you're on the right track. It's possible you deleted the default GPS gauge by mistake. Make sure you're looking for the correct one. The file name is fs9gps.cab. You can retrieve it from msgame3.cab on FS9 CD-2.

I think Hagar is right on this issue. You must have deleted the fs9gps guage by mistake. Changing the panel.cfg file of one aircraft file should not affect any other aircraft. I alter the panel and aircraft cfg files all the time to change gps systems add my weapons and new guages. All my other aircrafts works fine. There is a new and better version of Garmin 530 which is free for download, you may want to try that. :o

...mm...been looking at this one but not really sure what the problem is exactly.........IF there is no sign at all of the Garmin GPS 500 when the appropriate button is pressed then I agree it is just the whole cab which is probably missing.....and a simple remedy.

HOWEVER from the topic title, I inferred that just the DISPLAY is blank and that the actual Garmin GPS 500 was there, but with blank screens........which would be an entirely different problem...... :-/

No help from me though ..sorry..and without knowing the actual download can't investigate further.....commoner :(

Well spotted. I now know what Dave was getting at with the avionics & battery. Unfortunately we will be left in the dark unless Russell returns to elaborate.

...mmm...well I hope Russell does reply ...I think it's a shame when members asking for help forget(?) to give feed back to others who spend time looking for answers........
