Frame rate drop fix.

Postby gypsymoth » Tue Aug 19, 2008 3:44 am

A friend has a not very nice looking fs9 with jerky views at large airports.
I tweaked mine ages ago but can't find my printed 'how to' or find the original thread I read here.  Was it by NickN?   I'd be very grateful if some-one could point me in the right direction!
Thanks.

If it only occurs at large airports, and the rest of the Sim runs fine, I would suggest reducing the Traffic Density to 20%...or less...or even Zero!

I don't hang about at large Airports so my Traffic Density is set at Zero, and providing the Scenery is Default, I don't have any "stutter" problems.

With my complex, Add-on Airport Scenery, I just put up with the occasional "stutter"...no problem...it's a pain I can bear...;)..!

Frame rate locked at 25 FPS for "smooth" flying...;)...!
Everything else, Maxed!... :)...!

Paul....G-BPLF...FS 2004.... 8-)...!

P.S. ..don't forget to reduce the "Cloud" complexity in Weather Options...Clear Skies are the best!...;)... ;D...!

Socket A AMD 2600 MMX 3D now! Thoroughbred (2.1 GHz), nVidia 7800GS 256, 2.3 GB RAM..... :-*...!

He's added WoAI airlines & get lots of traffic now & uses Gatwick & Heathrow a lot so avoiding them & reducing traffic to 20% will rather defeat the object.  His fr drops from the usual 24 to around 10.  I tweaked my fs ages ago & got a much improved looking & preforming sim from a how to here, if only I could find it.

I find that installing Complex Airport Scenery with loads of traffic, has the same effect on the Frame Rates as abandoning cosy old FS 2004, and running FSX instead... :o.... ;D....!

Paul... ;D...!

P.S. ..never had to alter anything in my FS 2004 Flight Sim .cfg File to get it to run smoothly...
..a Frame rate drop to 8FPS for a short period, over a Large, complex Airport is what I would expect from my system... :)...!

Paul...G-BPLF...General Aviation...Piston Props....and Grass Airstrips... 8-)...!

P.S When you see those amazing Screen Shots of that Fantastic Airport Scenery in the Screen Shot Forum.....notice that they NEVER indicate their poor Frame Rates at the time... [smiley=evil.gif]...!

... :o...!

That doesn't make sense!... :o...!

I reckon he's un-installed all that Frame-Rate eating Scenery!...;)... ;)... ;)...!

.... ;D...!

Paul...G-BPLF... 8-)...!

P.S. Note: Frame rates must be locked at 20 FPS for Multiplayer...which makes sense...;)..!

Paul - locked at 100 when I checked but we played with the slider & have set it now at 35.  At HR & Gatwick, eg, FR drops to around 18 at times otherwise stays around 20+ but it also depends on the complexity of the panel I noticed.  In the VC of Rick Piper's lovely Jet Provost at 1250ft & 250 mph crossing Gatwick the FR was 21-24 & the passage looked smooth with 40 aircraft there.   Elsewhere FR is 30+.   I've got my slider at 35 now from 24 & mine looks a bit smoother too,   :-?

Thanks for the 2 links socialgarbage (!!) I'll check them out.

Terry.
