a few questions for this newbee...

Postby wongsing » Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:04 am

Hello, I am generally new to flight simulators and although I am starting to to learn more and more, I am at another stopping point. I have a few questions if anyone could help answer that would be great!

1. Just recently, some of my aircraft when viewed from the outside with the lights turned on, there is a DRASTIC drop in FPS! I.E: flying one of my payware jets even on take off gets about 22-30 FPS and then when the lights are on it goes to about 6-9!!! Does anyone have any idea about this? I did just get a few more payare add-ons and it didn't say anything about that in the manuals...

2. Some of my airplanes have wing vortex effects and contrails etc. So, how would I go about adding the same effects to an airplane that is identical but different vendor?

3. Does anyone know if there are any AV-8B harrier addons coming for FSX? (In know that might be kinda outta line here, but i was only wondering!)

4. Could someone post any or all of their favorite payware add-ons? I am particularly looking for modern day US fighters, but I am interested to know what everyone else likes! Thanks, and nice to meet everyone!

Maybe some of the wing vortexes and contrails are sucking down your frame rates?

and to save you on money you might want to get some freeware, some models and effects are as good as payware. just look around in the downloads section ;)

My favorite payware models are:

Aerosoft's DHC-2 Beaver
RealAir Decathlon Scout
Shockwave/A2A WOPII B-17G & P-40
Lionheart Creations Bellanca Super Viking

But there are plenty of freeware addons out there for FS9 that are nearly payware quality.

Effects like that can be added by modifying the aricraft.cfg file.  Jus t look at one the has the effects, and (usually) the effects are tied to either the [smokesystem] or [lights].  Just transfer the effects lines to the aircraft.cfg you are modifying.  Make sure tou renuumber teh "smoke.X" or "light.X" number in sequence.

3. Does anyone know if there are any AV-8B harrier addons coming for FSX? (In know that might be kinda outta line here, but i was only wondering!)

At the top of the topics there's a tab for "Site Search".  Just type in "FSX AV-8B".

4. Could someone post any or all of their favorite payware add-ons? I am particularly looking for modern day US fighters, but I am interested to know what everyone else likes! Thanks, and nice to meet everyone!

I'm too much of a cheapskate to do payware.  The freebies suit my needs, and most likely, my system would not be able to handle the high end paywares.
