Increasing Autogen draw distance?

Postby michaelb15 » Mon Jul 07, 2008 12:36 pm

ok im trying to make fs9 look as good as possible, without having to step up to fsx, because for whatever the reason my computer won't handle that game.. But FS9 I am getting very stable 40-50fps.

Ive installed all the reccomended things, and the autogen tree booster, so it actually looks like a forest :p lol I love that one :p

but anyways.. how can I increase the draw distance of autogen, and/or the general draw distance..

Ive maxed all the settings, and in the fs9.cfg, ive set the terrain as follows:

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=50
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=50
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=50

what more can I do to increase the graphics, and get a usless 40fps down to 25 usuable awsome looking fps   :D

thanks a lot guys!

TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=50
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=50
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=50

Those are useless ... the radius will not go higher than 9.5 on either and the TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS is either 0 or 1 (ON or OFF).

And believe me ... everything maxed does not make a quality sim ;)

I find that to be rather pretentious. Sure ... it's a nice image but it is not even close to something like this or this

I swear you have my highest of respects

So ... get on yer knees boy ;D

Oh and BTW: you've hotlinked your avatar and signature while linked images are not allowed on SimV ...

ohh crap thanks for pointing that out.. lol...

i kno what you mean by that quote, but im getting 40 fps.. and really only need ~25ish.. so why not put the other 15 fps into noticable output? rather then just letting those resorces wasted in somthing that you cant see?

lol also just dissapointed after getting fsx, but not being able to really use it realistically.. but still impressed with its graphics.. lol want to make fs9 look like fsx..

Very true ... you seem to really understand ;)

Why don't you try some nice 3D clouds package like Flight Environment (payware) or FS Sky World (freeware)? For good ground textures I recommend Ground Environment Pro (payware) or Real Environment Pro (freeware). Land class like the Ultimate Terrain is also very nice and a good mesh, like FSGenesis or FSGlobal is invaluable too. Simviation also has a rather nice and free mesh available here.

Oh you mean like this or this? ;)

And they don't even have payware in them ::)

ok getting a bit better.. after installing some clouds herrs what I got

Image

still leads me to ask about the draw distance... is there any way at all to crank it up?

ive been looking in the texture.cfg, and fs9.cfg, but havnt really come up with much.. is it in the tree coding it self? what can I use to manipulate the files?

The pic above represents what the scenery in the distance REALLY looks like when you are up in the air, in real life!

(The first pic in the thread is most unrealistic).

Fog, mist, rain and smoke, etc, severely restrict your long distance vision!

I adjust my Weather Settings to reduce my "clear" visibility to 5 - 8 Miles maximum.

Rendering clear, detailed scenery 50+ miles away, is a waste of resources!... :(...!

Paul...G-BPLF....peering through the Mists of Time... 8-)...!

TRUE! Though in your screenshot, the weather is rather bad whereas in my photo below the weather was rather nice ...

Resized too 800x600. Especially for Foz. And in case you're wondering: it's PH-ALV approaching 09 at EHTE
