It usually is a effect, on the smoke key (i) but the plane has to with it ;)

MS "Combat Flight Simulator" is your favourite choice of Flight Simulator...;)...

FS 2004 is a Civilian Flight Simulator....involving Civilians... :)...!

Most planes in Flightsimulator do not have a fire function for the weapons. This is because there is no realistic way to simulate the effect of weapons in flightsimulator. If you would like to fire weapons you're better off with Combat Flight Simulator, Lock-On, or IL-2 sturmovik series.

Flight Simulators; FS '98, FS 2000, FS2002, FS 2004, and FSX was not designed to use (realistic) weapons....

It can contain Military Aircraft, but ALWAYS in a Non-Combat role.

Most/all FS Pilots use their aircraft for Civilian purposes only.

"Combat Flight Simulator" is for shooting and bombing "things"...;)...!

Paul...!

And weapons effects, etc, In the Sim cannot be seen by other on-line Pilots in Multiplayer anyway!

...any mention of shooting and bombing "things" in the civilian version of Flight Simulators, eg; FS 2004, generally raises confusion in the minds of Sim V, FS 2004 Members...;)..!

For that purpose, we generally fire up our version of Combat Flight Simulator 2 or 3, and then have fun blasting everything out of the sky and ground...as you do...

...before returning to our gentle Civilian Flight Simulator....FS 2004... :)...!

Hi Kanede, welcome to the V! I hope you enjoy your stay with us crazy people ;)

Shooting and bombing things - like Paul said - is not possible in Flight Simulator X, Flight Simulator 2004 or any other version of Flight Simulator. I think you have seen a 'guns effect' like this one that makes it look like an aircraft is firing its guns, but it will not have any effect on other aircraft; they will not be damaged. Below is an example of such an effect, which in this case is included in the Just Flight Spitfire. But again, it will not damage the aircraft you are shooting at ...

Again, this will not damage the other aircraft! It is just an effect that simulates the guns firing. As the others here already told you, if you want to use real guns in a Flight Simulator and shoot aircraft or bomb things, then you should look at Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. Below is an example of that sim:

Exellents answers.
But even being a civil simulator, I feel much atracted toward military aircraft.
There is a wide range of missions you can atempt in military operations, apart from shooting.

-Military transports, airlift & airborne operations. (Berlin airlift, Afghan, Irak...Congo)
-Recon and survillance flights. (Cold War...VietNam)
-Intercept civil (AI) flights, flying in close formation....

I myself thing exiting to reproduce real Recon and military transports flights in FS9. Search the web.
Regards

Nessim,

completely agree with you,i wish some one can develop the new mod
in FS9 and FSX with military function as well as civil aviation, that's really great, one space all in one, wish microsoft could realize this.

It would be to much work for a function that isn't supposed to be in this simulator line in the first place, for this they developed Combat Flightsimulator. Thus they probably never will make this, although they did create scenery interactivity.

As  others have said, FS9 (and all the FS series) are not really set up for weapons, however, there are several add-ons that provide the effects.  Once you've downloaded them and properly installed the effects and aircraft, you can look at the .cfg and suss out how to add weapon effects to virtually anything.

I've spent many a happy hour adding gun effects to my F86's, ME 263 HG, HO 229 and a few otehrs, and tweaking the effects so that they show up where they are supposed to be, and even more happy hours tweaking other things like exhaust smoke effects (in FSX).

But, again, they are only effects, nothing more.  You cannot blow up buildings, take out bridges, or "clear the runway" of some hulking 747.

A few of the add-ons with weapon effects (off the top of my head) are the Airwolf helicopter, the Spitful, and one of the recent P-51 releases.  Just enter those in the site "Search", and read their discriptions.

As far as the FS series being a Flight Simulator geared towards civil aviation, that's true.  But the way I see it, I paid for my software, it's installed on my computer, and it's for my enjoyment.  So, if I want to load this puppy up with a B-52 loaded with (Pretend) SRAM missiles and attacking some Al-Quida stronghold in the mountains of Afghanistan, that's my business.  I'm not forcing anyone to do so on their computer.

Heaven forbid I learn how to make the weapons effects fire sideways, I'd full-up a Spectre AC-130 sooooo fast.... ;)

Or, even better...:
