FS9 vs FSX

Postby FS 2004 Captain Liam » Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:37 pm

Just a poll on who's staying with FS9 and who's going to FSX :)
A snail walks into a bar and the barman tells him there's a strict policy about having snails in the bar and so kicks him out. A year later the same snail re-enters the bar and asks the barman "What did you do that for?" :-)

I have both installed, and on my system FS9 looks and runs better than FSX.  I can get decent frame rates in FSX, but I just don't care for some of the interface such as aircraft selection.  Plus I have hundreds of add-ons already installed and setup the way I like and FSX just can't run as well with them.

I am the opposite I think fsx is awsome as far as looks, I was able to turn the scenery to max (although not really maxed) but sliders to the left. And was wow'ed by the default looks! But alas I had to turn my traffic all the way off, For that I will stick with fs9 but FSX is insanly better that fs9 I think I just cant run it like I'd like to..

You can't 'Go to FSX', when you've had it for two years.  ::)

FS '98 > FS 2000 > FS 2002 > FS2004 >

Got FSX the day it was first released.

Tried it

Quickly popped it back into its Jewel Case....

Wheeled out my Favourite Aircraft with my favourite Scenery, in my Favourite FS 2004...

Wound up everything to the stutter-free Max, as I do...

Having loads of Fun... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!

Never bought FSX. Wouldn't run on my PC like FS9 does so why bother? Don't have the money to upgrade to a FSX high end system anyhow. I've got FS9 set up the way I like it the most, got my sceneries sorted, ground and flight environment, everything maxed out at 23 FPS everywhere all the time.

Crash ;)

A BIG agree to all that Fozz said.......IMHO too much work has been done on FS9 to just dump it all...will wait for FS11/12/13/14 before even THINKING about a change...........commoner  ;)

I went from fs98 to FSX.... FSX is great but it took up way too much of my Harddrive space and i was only able to running it at half settings to get maybe 15 fps... i would pause it and crank it all the way up for screen shots... last month i pulled FSX off my comp and went with FS9 and its running like a dream... I will go back to FSX when i can really upgrade my comp or build a new one. 8-)

FS9 is fun but doesn't look nearly as awesome as fsx maxed.
Maxed fsx with 10-50fps
x2 2.5ghz
3gbs RAM
320gb HD
vista HP
22" monitor

I have El Crosso. Running FS9 at near max settings, but I am intrigued. I'm going to risk it...

I think this is one of those debates that has been driven straight into the ground time and time again . . . but, hey, let's not stop now!

;D ;)

Obviously, everyone should use what makes them happy.  If one person is happy with FSX, it doesn't make FS9 bad.  If another person is happy with FS9, that doesn't make FSX bad.  ZOMG!  That's right!  Both versions can be good, and for different or even overlapping reasons!

Also, there isn't a reason why a person couldn't use both FS9 and FSX!  I mean, I like fish and chips, you know?  As has been pointed out, there is some much development that has been done already for FS9, you can really do a lot to it with the add-ons available.  On the other hand, once you have a system that has stronger, more contemporary hardware and specs, FSX is absolutely beautiful, and has a lot of features built-in that FS9 does not (one need only compare the functionality of VC's to see this played out).

There is nothing wrong if you want to continue using an older version of FS that you are familiar and comfortable with using.  But, there is nothing wrong with people who want and are able to make use of the newest version of FS, in this case FSX.  That's right, there is room enough in the sky for us all.

Honestly, you could compare the different features available for each version, but that isn't even a debate really as use will always come down to personal preference.  And in the realm of personal preference, who's to say whose preference is right or wrong?

Happy flying,
Darrin

PS
When I first got FSX, I hated it and went back to FS9.  Then, I discovered how anemic my computer was.  A few upgrades later (maybe about $225 worth) after a few months of saving, and now I absolutely love FSX.  But, I still keep FS9 simply for the vast number of aircraft already available for it.  See?  I use both FS9 and FSX, I like them both, and my head hasn't exploded!
