Lightning and Hawaii

Postby aussiewannabe » Sun Mar 02, 2008 3:54 pm

Two problems:

1. I've tried several lightning add-ons and through all the changes, I would like to get back the original ones on the discs. Thought I had made a backup, but these may have been deleted during spring cleaning.

2. Hawaii - I can't access Hawaii through the States/Province windows. I'm sure that's on the discs as well, but which one and how do you reload it without reloading fs9 again? I did have a mesh for it as well as some AI C-17, but I have removed both from the scenery directory thinking that may have caused it to disappear.

Thanks.

You can restore original files by extracting the file(s) from the .cab files on the CD's. .cab files are like .zip files and files can be extracted in the same manner, either in Explorer (XP) or your favorite archive utility like Winzip or Winrar.

For the lightning, it looks like there are 6 'fx_lightning*.fx' files in the \Effects\ folder, and 'fx_flash.bmp' and 'fx_lightning1.bmp' in ..\Effects\texture\. (These are in CD1\MSGAME1.cab\Effects.)

Hint: If your in Explorer, using 'details view', once you open the .cab file you'll have a new column header in the right pane named 'Path'. Click this header to organize the files by 'destination folder')

For Hawaii: Are you missing the Hawaii airports or just the 'State' sort? I suggest you start the sim, goto Settings>Scenery Library, click on OK to exit the Scenery Library. Restart the sim and it should rebuild the library including the 'index' files, and see if that solves the problem. If not we'll have to dig further.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Dave,

I restored the lightning effects.

As to your question about Hawaii, I can't access the state in order to pick an airport to fly out of or into. I followed your instructions, and the database rebuilt itself, but I still can't access Hawaii. Also tried a few other states like Colorado and it too wouldn't allow me to see the airports.

Is there something on the CDs that refers to the US Airports?

The answer is yes the entire default scenery is on one of the disks. What you can do is to look throught the GAMEFILEs on the cds and find the one that  has the world scenery on it. I would then suggest you unzip it to a folder outside of FS [glow=yellow,2,300]DO NOT UNZIP IT INTO FS[/glow] As you will write over the scenery files and if you added anything to the scenery folder you will loose it. Once you have the files unzipped all you have to do is to drag over the folders within the world scenery folder that should take care of the problem. 8-)
