Stupid question I should no the answer for...

Hi there,

I have a question which I should know the answer for, I'm sure. But I have to admit that I was lazy (and I have no time) to make all the flying lessons in FS. I'm sure I could get the answer from somewhere there...

I've seen several cases when people flying on the way that ATC gives altitude, directions, etc...to be honest, I have no idea how to do that! If I do gps or fmc navigation, I can't find this option, even if I'm sure that sometimes ATC should give me other instructions that I have in my flight plans...

So how's that? Sorry for asking this, I'm sure it's something really basic I missed to learn!

You should file a IFR flightplan, then the ATC should vector you around, atleast that is what it did for me.

I see...but does it mean that I have to make a flightplan again, even if I started the whole flight with the flightplan loaded? I know that in this case I should just fly the plan I have, but I'm wondering if the ATC should argue with me in some case, and give different directions for changed weather or traffic conditions.

You can create, modify, and cancell IFR flightplans midflight. And no, the FS ATC system isn't smart enough to vector you around adverse weather. You would have to either modify your flightplan yourself to accomplish that, or request an altitude change to get above or below the weather

Hmmm...I tried it, and it didn't work. So what should I do? Can someone tell me an example? To make it simple, we have our C172 sitting on the active runway at  Seattle Should I have the flightplan already loaded? If not, how can I make a flightplan in flight? I cannot enter a departure airport for obvious reason then.

I really have no idea how to achieve that ATC is "controlling" me...any more ideas?

If you open up the ATC menu, there will be an option to 'create or open an IFR flight plan'. Once you have an IFR flightplan loaded, there will be an additional option in the ATC menu to request an IFR clearance from ATC

when you select the option to file a IFR flight it should open the flight planning window.
All you have to do is to select the airport you just left (if you are in flight all ready) then select your destination airport select the altitude you wish to fly at then choose the type route you want to fly. then press find route save and when it asks you if you wan to start at the destination airport tell it no if you are all ready flying. then when the screen comes back just ask for IFR clearance and that should do the trick. 8-)
