Only ?!    There's an old joke that goes; "How long does it take to trim a 172 ?" ...  "About 20 hours"..  Because you'll have spent 20+ hours of your time in the air, before you "get it"

The first line in the original post :

im new to flight simulator and might sound wierd but im using this to learn to be a pilot.

It's hard (for me) to resist the urge help steer the budding, new pilot down the path of realistic simming  :)

A tip no-one seems to have offered yet, chase-23.

Assuming that you're using a joystick and it has some spare buttons; from the main FS screen, click on 'Settings,' then 'Assignments,' and scroll down to 'Trim nose up/down.' You'll find (from memory) numpad keys 1 and 7 shown.

Click on 'change assignment' and then click the buttons you want to use for 'up' and 'down.' I use two which are right under my thumb.

Once you've done that it's much easier to adjust trim - beats making sure Numlock is off and peering at the keyboard, anyway.

Or, of course, you can assign a wheel on the joystick if you've got one spare. That would possibly be even better, that's what you have to trim the real thing.

About trimming in general, the best technique is 'try a little and wait.' Don't put in a vast trim change all at once, just give it a couple of clicks and then allow the aeroplane time to settle. You'll soon get the hang of it. There'll be a trim indicator somewhere on the panel (usually a wheel with notches next to it) which will show you how much you're putting on/taking off.
