Changing Runways

Postby HolluH14 » Tue Feb 14, 2006 5:35 pm

Wow I've been posting alot of these lately  :P...but anyway: I was doing a flight today from EGLL-KJFK and Boston Center instructed me to fly an approach to runway 4R at Kennedy (4L was being used for take-offs).  I would like to know how to change your approach to an airport without  ATC telling you to go around to the original runway they assigned...because eventually I would never get landing clearance on the runway I requested.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Simple.

The most simple thing.

Close the IFR flight plan, put AI to zero and self-vector yourself to the runway you like.

ATC will NOT give you another runway, unless it's parallel to the one you were given as first. Period. :-/

They will change parrallel runways as he said but won't give you a different direction. It's always going to be 'into the wind' or as FS9 see fit. Don't forget that for a parrallel change, DON'T accept the first chice then change your mind. Select 'request annother runway or approach' from the list.

I am having similar problems especially when flying IFR. i setup to do an ILS landing and when i request a landing they give me the same runway but from the opposite direction. No ILS. Very hard to land in zero visabilty with out an instrument approach.

Like it was said before, Flight Sim ATC is very stubborn, regardless of whether or not you can see past the nose of your plane, you will land in the direction they instruct you. It is a rather inconvienient situation that hopefully will be addressed in FSX.

Lmao  :D yes it seems that FlightSim ATC is very stubborn.  But it was a pain  to be descending from the northeast and then have to go all the way around to intercept the ILS for 4R instead of flying an approach to runways 31L/R or 22L/R.  But oh well, Thanks anyway!

I fly helicopters more than fixed wing and would like to see ATC to be able to vector you straight onto the helipad instead of down a runway. Maybe in FSX.
