I totally agree, except with the "sometimes" - there are absolutely TONS of fantastic freeware products, the amount of care and time that must have gone into them is amazing...

They can just keep the same default planes for all I care, and I hope they keep the planes backwards compatible or a lot of hard work by freeware designers who would prefer just to update what they have and not start from scratch will go to waste... They could make the code a bit more transparent and user friendly, though, I'd love to make some changes to flight dynamics with planes that are impossible to land because they won't stop, and I can't work out how, even experienced designers seem to have trouble deciphering how some things work in the game...

What I would like to see is an improved default ai network where different 'airlines' fly from regional hubs so for example Soar airlines are based in the US and Soar Dash 8s don't then turn up in Indonesia where they'd never have the range to fly to. It would then be easier for amateurs like me to create their own ai - simply by replacing default planes with others... (I know it could slow down the sim if they are not made for ai but...panel out, default sound, no VC, or just choose carefully)  It would mean of course that they would need more default airlines to give variety in different regions but still. It would also be nice if they made some tools for easy addition of ai, and something that could accommodate ANY planes for ai, or at least say what is stopping it from being used for some reason...It would then be possible to create an ai set for a certain era, by filling the sim with, for example, 1960's jets from the historic jetliners group... In fact, a datadisk or freeware addon with historic ai and airports, AFCADS and all included in one easy zippp.... would be my dream. The 1930s, the late 50s, the mid-70s... it would be a colossal undertaking so I guess it's just a dream.

Finally, I'd just like to say that I'm glad they are not releasing FS2006 this year, because it gives developers plenty of time to make fantastic products that get the most out of the existing game, and we can invest a lot of time and sometimes money improving the weather, terrain, ai, planes etc without worrying about the fact that soon we'll be getting the new version and it will mainly go to waste... especially if they ditch everything because it's too limiting and start with something totally new...

Did I really write all that?

.........well said young Krig.........just one thing...... the AI stuff  is pretty awful I agree...........but a little time spent learning to use the excellent TTools program and you can eliminate that and fill the world with your own choice of airlines flying from where you want to wherever you choose and using the airlines you want to use..........it is a bit hard to get used to but well worth the effort. I suppose one of the things we could see in the new version of FS would be a built in, user friendly version of TTools..............commoner ;)

Krigl, my "sometimes" was not meant to be a derogative. ;)

Alright, I should have written "most of the times" as if it's true that a lot of freeware add-ons are better than stock planes, there are some out there that are worse. :P

I could name names, but it would be impolite, so I stay silent. ;D

As for the release date of the new FS being postponed, I'm happy about it too.

If M$ takes another yer to tinker on the new FS10 they MUST give something good. When FS10 will be out there MUST be no oversights or half-assed choices, and no need to wait for a patch either.

As for the retrocompatibility, I hope like you do, but let's keep it real, it's bound to be like any other FS upgrade in the near past.

As for the improvements, I've already written down my wishes in this and other forums. Let us all hope for the best. :)

........lol.....MUST you say?  if you believe that Ash. then you must be naive.............no software ever written didn't need patching here and there.....it's written by humans who are not infallible............"human error"  you must have heard of that?..............there is an old saying..... Personally I love FS9. Sure it has a few bugs, but overall its a fantastic program.

Ive read some complaints about it that make me wonder why there are those that complain that want it so real they just dont go hop in a real plane.

Some complaints are just unnecessary. Personally I have gotten tens of hundreds of hours of enjoyment from FS9 and will continue to do so until FS10 is released eventually, without sounding like a child that isnt allowed in the candy store

Not out of naivete is made my last post, but of desperate hope. Take FS2002 for example, it was good enough not to seriously need a patch. FS9, on the other hand... ;)

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Oh great, now we'll never hear from JB again.  LOL

(That's a killer set up.  It's so tempting, but I know how obsessive I can be.  It really wouldn't be healthy!)

If I may chime in about the backwards compatibility thing: If they make the next FS not compatible, then it should use a system like X-Plane for better flight dynamics. Not just do basically the same thing in a different way like CFS3.

...Oh and Ash..........I'll predict here and now that your "desperate hope" is doomed to be unfulfilled.....IMHO. ;)

You're an evil, evil man Commoner. :'(

If you deprive people of hope, what force remain between you and a revolt. :(

In the end, who knows, you might be right, but I hope that FS10 will be if compared to FS9 like Fs2002 was and is when compared to FS2000. Quite a nice step forward with no defects to be corrected with a patch. :P

took almost 4 years for GT4 and that ended up being a bust

Did it? I think it's wicked.
