Getting perplexed

Postby Smoke2much » Thu Feb 10, 2005 1:34 pm

This is my latest problem:

The large black square is where the 2D panel should be.  Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong.

I have up to date drivers, I'm getting great FPS and quality.  I have today re-installed and the HDD was formatted 4 days ago.

Will are you sure you haven't got 2 sets of drivers installed simultaneously?
Uninstall all drivers, reboot and then install the latest drivers only ;)

Which aircraft is this? You can usually pull down the view - or more to the point  there are fixes if you need them for this problem if it's what I suspect it is - but 1st things 1st - what a/c?

Will. You said no WinXP updates. Which version of DirectX do you have installed? Also is this FS9.1?

Hey Will....... weird chance here.

Back up your existing fs9.cfg file somewhere.  Then delete it and try running the sim again.

You'll lose any manual tweeks...... but the stock cfg file will regenerate.

best,

Doug - DX 9.1c as I've been running 3dMark 03.

John - Same display error post deletion of .cfg file.

I alt-entered so that I could try a few things whilst I was still chatting to you guys here and of course the sim was displayed in a small box beind default 800*600 on my screen which is set fo 1024*768.

I maximised the screen and the Guages come back, I Alt-enter to remove the windows "box" and they disappear.

I can tell which way up I am again but it's a moot point as my fps dropped to about 7-9 because the sim is windowed.

Pass me the hammer someone.

I can't help much as I don't have WinXP & I'm not familiar with your graphics card. I'm assuming you have one of the nVidia type. From similar problems I've seen here in the past it's most likely to be your video card drivers/settings or DirectX or a combination of both. What you say about it being OK in Windows mode seems to fit as Wiindows mode will use your Desktop display settings & Full Screen mode runs in DirectX & uses the 3D settings. I could be wrong but this is how I always thought it works.

I haven't tried it myself & don't know if the FS9.1 update affects the display or causes/fixes this problem. The latest DX 9.0c caused display problems with FS9 on my own system & I wish now that I hadn't installed it.
