umm, what are your computer specs? Perhapsif you post some specs and such someone will have a similar setup and know some tricks about it... ;-)

As for settings I highly recommend the following:
http://forum.wspilots.com/viewtopic.php?t=6

I don't use these settings on my pc as I can run all out, but I have used these settings with tremendous results on my dads desktop and work laptop.  Both pc, are in the low Gigahertz range (1.5 and 1.7GhZ) and the sim would not run without reducing the settings to minimum as well flying in perfect weather.  Now I can consistently get in the upper twenties (Locked at 25) on both PC's.

And as debated in that thread there is really no visual quality lost in my honest opinion... ;-)

Depends on a lot of things: your hardware, your FS settings, etc. Before you try adding some tweak or whatever, you should play with the sim settings (basically trade some image quality for smoother performance). How bad is it?

Try googlinf "fs9 tweaks", etc. and many websites that have excellent suggestions to get the most out of your game should come up.

Go to Start > Run > type in "dxdiag" [without the quotes] > click on the Display tab.

You should be able to see most of your video specs there. For system specs, look at the first tab.

If the CD let you install and the game got to the point where you are actually flying an airplane, you probably have what it takes to run the game at minimum settings.

So try that out... while you are flying hit 'P' to pause, then hit the 'alt' key to bring up the menu.

There are about a thousand threads here and in the Hardware forum on this topic.  If you look on the past messages pages you should find all manner of help in figuring out how to get the most out of the sim on your hardware.  Lots of helpful links too.

The bottom line.... fs9 is a hard load for a computer to handle.  The higher the settings... the beefier the machine you'll need to get flyable framerates.

best,

I might say otherwise.

My laptop is not all that beefy. But somehow, I can fly the sim at near-max settings. Look at the specs on my sig.

I installed FS2004 onto a fresh PC last week, specs below, getting frame rates 20-25 with all sliders maxed using all default.
I'll let you know how it goes with downloads/Payware...

Question..when I went to that link at WS pilots, they said to set your AGP graphics apeture to 256 if you have over 1GB of RAM (I have 1.2 GB)

The thing is, I have a 128 MB graphics card (an ATI RAEDON 9500 pro)

Will that cause a problem if I set my AGP apeture to 256 or wil it help?

I don't believe it will hurt it, or hurt your performance as this is only the amount of "reserved" memory...

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I got out of that information as well as what I've seen around here..;-)
