Is Rod Sulking ??

I'm trying to work my way through the lessons on FS2004, but, after telling me that I was distracted (I wasn't- I was just finding it all rather difficult) Rod terminated the lesson.

When I returned 10 minutes later (re-focused) Rod won't let me have control. He gets thro the first part ofthe lesson where he shows me what to do butthen the autopilot stays on. And Rod doesn;'t talk to me any more!

Is there a way round this ? Is it a fault ? Are there better waysto learn to simFly ?

No, there isn't, you're a bad student and no longer welcome in the MSFS flight school. Don't quit your day job.  ;D

Just kidding. Have you tried restarting the lesson again, or manually disengaging the AP(z)? I never went through the lessons myself, so I'm not 100% sure how they work.

Andy the lessons in FS are a waste of time. They weren't any good in FS2k2, and they are still as buggy in FS9 unfortunately

I thought they were OK up untill he starts talking about VORs. It dosnt actually teach you how to use it, it just tells you "here do it...oh, your distracted, lesson over", which is why I dont use VORs...

I do admit the concepts were good with it . I had the most problem with steep turnes . Vor's might be covered more in dept in latter lesson possible . I have made it all the way to the private pilot checkride . The only new thing I have really applied from 98 to 2004 is trim and aircraft limits .

I went through the instrument rating checkride in a huge amount of detail.  One of the things I learned was that both the examiner and Rod expect you to be in certain places at certain times during the lesson/checkride but they don't tell you that and they sometimes they just wait for you to get there.

So you end up with wierd stuff like Rod sitting over there with his arms crossed sulking and glaring at you and you have now idea why.  Sort of the if-you-don't-know-I'm-not-going-to-tell-you approach to lessons.

On one lesson I had him coach me into a landing at some airport except that we were nowhere near the airport and then he chastised me for crashing his airplane.

So, for those of you who don't know VOR that well (myself included)...

VOR is great because it's like a beacon that your radios can see no matter what the weather is like.  It works in clear skies, fog, rain, snow, etc.

Go to the Learning Center, select Navigation and then What You Need To Know About VOR.  Practice in clear weather and then you'll be able to get where you want to go in any conditions.

When the air traffic controller tells you to resume your own navigation , click the nav hold on ap or, keep the line on the HSI lined up .

FS 2004 Lessons: Read the material. Try to understand the concepts. Listen and watch Rod show you what you need to know and listen to him explain. Now go through the "Create A Flight" menu and practice it on your own. Having Rod screaming in your ear about maintaining altitude within 500 ft. or keeping on course when you want to try something out is a huge distraction that you don't need when trying to figure something out.

LOL, I've thought this many times..then I stopped using the lessons...

I mean can you blame him though..

his wife just left him, his airplane is soon due for an annual,

and his flight students just can't do anything right!!! LOL..
