Something other than installing

Adding Aircraft Traffic, airport gates, etc, to your Sim - AFCAD, TTools, Project AI, AI Aircraft, etc

Something other than installing

Postby Phantom5000 » Wed Sep 03, 2008 12:03 am

Ok  my problem here is a odd one, AI aircraft have no problems taxxing or taking off.  My issue here the heck do they disappear in midflight.  All the AI i have other than the one airport i made disappears in midflight, after about 5 minutes of flying including takeoff.  They just vanish.

My reasonings are this:

1) No parking at airport they are going to
2) Since i started at a time that wasnt their real time, fs makes them late and zips them to their destination. (my reasoning on this is at like 1%, i let my fs sit for two days and then i tookoff following a airliner and it disappeared as well.)
3)slider has been at 1,25,50, and 100%.  still does the same.

So if anyone has any insight on this it would be great, because i want to fly with my AI and not watch it disappear.  I have about 30 MWAI installed and about 30 WOIA packages installed.  Please give me some help here. It would be much appreciated.

Behavior of ai is not always predictable..   :) ..so the following is based on my experiences, not necessarily fixed 'rules'.

1) If parking is not available, the typical behavior is to land at the destination, stall on the runway and then disappear.

3) Slider shouldn't make a difference. It effects the number of ai spawned. not their behavior, at least not after takeoff.

2) This might be possible. Nearly all WoAI flight plans use a fixed arrival time at the gate. The in-flight time may be unrealistic, compared to the design cruise speed of the FS model. This might cause them to jump ahead if they get to far behind the schedule, particularly if late departure is involved.

Default flight plans are calculated on the design cruise speed so there should be no need to jump ahead. Maybe try following  a default flight and see if the same thing happens.

***********************

AI 'pilots' are a very cautious lot. They do not like player aircraft flying to close, particularly during departure and arrival manuvers. If you are to close (within a mile or two) they may not make their turns to stay on course. If they are 'forced' to far off course they will eventually disappear.

What sim version are you using?  Most of the above is based on following ai on 'calculated arrival' flight plans in FS9. I'll have to experiment with the WoAI 'fixed arrival' flight plans in FSX.

i usually fly really close to them, so they never get farther than 10nm from me.

OK that traffictoolkit answered some questions, some airplanes disappear after takeoff, only ones that didnt were ones who were going back into the pattern, MWAI jets.  Some airlines were in the air en route, but looked like ones who were on approach to the airports in the area.

Ok more info, airplanes coming in on arrival also show up enroute, but they just appear, its basically anything above 8000FT disappear.

The t-45s from Meridian.   That is weird though, since im flying with them though wouldnt the zone move with me?  so in turn they shouldnt disappear?

Yes, as you're flying with them, they shouldn't disappear.

Is that the only ones that disappear?

I'll download it, and check it out.

Ok i figured out the issue, now is there a way to fix it!

Like was said before airplanes disappear after they are 10NM for your  "START Location".  is there a way to to change your start location as you are flying, like it continuously restarts your starting location as you are flying.  Instead of keeping where you started as your default location.  this is why they are disappearing so its not really a big issue.  But i was just wondering if there is a way to fix this problem.

You cannot change the size of the area in which AI aircraft can be "followed" but you can use the utility named Traffic View Board by Arnt Helge Haland.

This program allows you to follow any flight from start to finish no matter what the flight distance may be. You are actually flying (unseen) with the AI aircraft so the 120 mile radius from a set location does not apply.

Here is a link to the file:

http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=55711

For relatively short flights and/or checking out flightplans at a particular airport, I use the Microsoft utility called Traffic Toolbox which has been mentioned earlier in this thead. A "must have" in my humble opinion.

Hope this helps.
