Looking for some warbirds...

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

Looking for some warbirds...

Postby Lazerbeak » Tue Jan 03, 2006 5:34 pm

I looked at my "collection" and noticed that I've been downloading a lot of modern military jets, and not nearly enough classic warbirds. I did a lot of searching for some nice ones, but am having trouble picking out the cream of the crop. I was wondering if anyone could recommend the best versions of these aircraft.

I'll be happy with most any WWII fighters, but am especially interested in Spits, Hurricanes, Hellcats, Corsairs, and Bf-109's (and pretty much any other German fighters). I'd also be interested in any Japanese or Soviet fighters. Freeware would be best, and although I'd prefer planes with VC's, it's not a necessity.

Also, if there's any panels/repaints/etc that could make them any better, by all means show 'em to me.

No doubt people will point you towards the AH Hurricane, and rightly so, but don't overlook this little beauty right here on SimV:

Robert Sanderson's freeware Hurricane IIA is highly recommended and definitely worth the 15MB download.

Practically all Hellcat models  I've come across for free download in the major flightsim sites are simply stock CFS2 F6F-3 Hellcat repaints.  The default model has been imported, lock stock and barrel into FS2002 or FS2004, as may be the case.

The Abacus F6F-5 Hellcat is  a new build model, as is their Corsair.

Look for the Alpha Ciel Blue Corsair here on simv

Indeed Robert Sandersons MKIIa Hurricane but also his Sea Hurri is very much worth the trouble..

Shigeru Tanaka's P-51 (Also here at simv I think)

Aeroplaneheavens Seafire,Me-109,Hurri are also very nice....There are plenty of good spits here on simv to though....

Try David Copley's P-38 (also here on simv)

Also Simtech's La-7 is very nice (and now freeware)

Unfortunately tehre are few very good Japanes ww2 fighters around. mostly also cfs2 models..

Not a fighter but definitely worth checking is the RCS-Panels B-25 Mitchell III (here on simv)

Thanks much for the recommendations guys, I'll be sure to hunt those down. ;)

I've had the RCS B-25 for a while now, and it is definitely an awesome package. I daresay, close to payware quality.

Not trying to be a Smarta--, but Alpha Bleu Ciel will yield better results.  Just thought I'd save you some searching.  No offense intended in correcting you.

Simtech La-7 is nice... when you remove 50% of the shine and correct the various scheme mistakes (reg number of the Khozedub machine is incorrect as is the spinner)
