SR-71 F16 combo

What aircraft have you been unable to find after a long search? There may be an answer!

SR-71 F16 combo

I was thinkin it would be cool if someone made an f-16 with SR-71 Engine mounted in the wings.  You could haul a** but still be super manuverable 8)

Wait . . . do you mean just replace the engine of the F-16 with an SR-71 engine?  That's fairly easy.

Go into the aircraft.cfg file of an SR-71 and find the section labled [Turbine_Engine_Data].  Copy everything below that line until you get to the next set of brackets.

Now go into the aircraft.cfg file of the F-16 and find the same section.  Replace all the stuff under that section with the stuff you just copied from the SR-71.

Now save and start FS.  Watch the heck out!!! ;D

Okay, gotcha.  I understand now.  That would take a certain amount of work, probably more than any designer is willing to undertake for a single request.  If there is a large want for something like this, it might be feasible to do.

Just understand:

Adding two VERY LARGE engines to the wings of an aircraft like the F-16 would add a tremendous amount of weight to the aircraft, along with making the fuel run out VERY quickly.

It would also pose some logistical problems, as the aircraft would probably become sluggish and unmanueverable at low speeds and too quick to flip around at high mach numbers.  This isn't how it would react in just real life, but in the sim.  But I would suggest you contact some creators of F-16 aircraft and get some info to them.  Every addon aircraft for FS should contain a file called the README which should contain the authors email.

Adding a picture is a little complicated, but once you do it a couple of times it becomes simple.  Look at the top of this page.  Underneath the SimV banner are several links.  Click on the "Upload Images" link and then follow the directions.  Make sure you make a unique filename for your image, not just aircraft.jpg or something.  Copy the URL it gives you.

The files MUST be *.jpg format, under 100kb in weight and 800x600 pixels in size, or it will be deleted.  Once you have uploaded, there is a button in the "Post Reply" screen that looks like a small landscape in a picture frame (its above the  ;D and  >:( smilies).  Click that and
Code: Select all

will appear.  Paste the URL into the space that says (duh!) URL and then change the yourpic.jpg to whatever you named your image.  Make sure there are NO SPACES in the name, or it won't work.  Now post it and see what happens.  If you don't get it the first time, try editing the post and changing *.jpg to *.JPG or vice-versa.

I scheme you'd have enough to make a trip it to the end of the runway and back :P

Just FYI, each engine on the SR-71 is nearly as long as an F-16!

You'd need some aerodynamic changes, it wouldn't be as simple as putting on the engines. If you did that in real life, it would just disintigrate. I'll have a look and see what I can do.

Ummm.... NO, NO and NO. :-/

#1: It would not be super manuverable because the faster you go, the more area it takes to make turns to keep G loads down to livable levels.
The A-12's turning radius at 4 g's and at mach 3 was 86 miles...

#2: The F-16 is little, very little. It cannot carry enough fuel to run 2 J-58's, much less one. It would be out of fuel in about and hour on one with wing tanks.

#3: You can't go that fast in an F-16. MAYBE Mach 2.0 -2.3 if you used and F-16XL, but not a '16. The wings, the vertical, and the canopy would desintegrate.

#4: There isn't enough room under the wings for a J-58. You are underestimating the size of it and all the apparatus needed for the sonic cone.

#5: The F-16 isn't even remotly close when it comes to the heat resistance needed for high speed flight.

...

interesting concept but how bout a bigger plane? or maby the main engine of the f-16 a blackbird engine but as it is its too unrealistic
this is not mind control ... think about it

i didn't think it would work, in fact i almost knew it wouldn't, i just thought it would be cool and i wanted to see what was possible. :)

Yes, within flight sim, (to my knowleadge) it would be possible to strap a couple of SR-71 engines onto an f-16. Although, without modification to the "fuel system" you would be out of fuel in a hurry, like earlyer stated. Also, there are alot of other problems that deveope at very high speeds, many of which an f-16 (again, un-modified exept for the engines) can not cope with. If you just say want to see what it feels like to have a mod like that send me a pm, i will modify the .cfg file for you to get the engines on an f-16, i could also give it some more fuel and i higher top speed, but as to the model mod, that i cant do.
