overclocking new rig memory question?

Getting new pc next week and iam going to do a bit of tweaking, what is the highest/safest level i could overclock? will this give me a noticable boost in fps in fsx? Also anyone got this cpu/motherboard/memory, will i be able to run the memory at 1066mhz and will this increase if i increase the fsb on cpu?

MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING BEFORE YOU OVERCLOCK.  It's pretty hard to destroy your hardware if you know what you are doing, but if you just start messing with things, you could fry something quite easily.  Check out the Abit forums for your motherboard about how to overclock using your hardware.

I overclocked my q6600 to 3 GHz and it's rock solid, but I know I can get it higher.  I had it up to 3.6 GHz on air and I didn't get it above 55

The memory will run at whatever you set it at if it's in range of the modules.

I would set 400mhz FSB speed with the ram/fsb ratio to 1:1, giving a cpu speed of 3.2ghz and 800mhz ram, then start working up from there.

I just clocked an E6750 on an IP35 to 3.4ghz with stock cooling and voltages. The IP35 has some issues that are not present on the IP35 pro however, make sure you get the pro model. The IP35 I used was a difficult board to set up, (incorrect readings in bios and software) as the ram I used needed to be set manually, SPD wouldn't configure a stable setting.

Yes - overclockingg will boost FSX performance  - probably a lot.

The art of overclocking is to find a sweet point in the settings = WHICH WILL NOT BE THE FASTEST POINT - but will maintain stability and freedom from crashes etc. It often is just at the point where any faster makes the tempretures jump up.

3ghz should be reachable on your CPU with a decent cooler (remember quads run hotter than duals) so get the best air cooler you can, usually the tower types with 12can fans are the best. Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775) is a excellent CPU cooler.

Don't forget adequate case cooling, ie a Sugo might be cute and small, but it has lousy case ventilation. A Antec 900 or Coolermaster Stacker on the other hand..

I took the side panel off my case and cut two holes in it with scisors and installed two 10cm fans - took no time at all. Controlled temps much better. You can stick little fans anywhere with a bit of double sided sticky pads. So temps can be tamed easily.

In my rig overclock to 3400 is cool - but go to 3600 and temps go up ten degrees and the computer easily freezes. I have tightened all the memory timings - but this has only a small effect on performance.
