Improve Performance?

My new PC has an Asus M2N32-SLI DeLuxe mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ processor. I have 1 Gig DDR2 PC6400 RAM. My video is an EVGA Nvidia GeForce 7950GT. I set BIOS at the default setting. My processor is reading 2.4GHz.
My questions:   Is there and how can I better set the CPU speed.
Exisating Settings:
NB to SB HT Frequency (Auto) Options [200.0]~[400.0]
CPU<->NB HT Speed (Auto) Options 1-5 x CPU Frequency
NB->SB HT Speed [5xNB to SB HT Freuency] Options 1 - 5xNB SB HT Frequency

What are ideal settings without the PC becoming unstable?

Your power supply and cooling solution are? Also what exact RAM do you have. All of these factors are major players in clocking a system, so you could hit as high as 3.8 or as low as 2.6

My case is the Sonata II with 450W PSU. I have presently 1 Gig Kingston PC6400. I have an older PC with Athlon XP and I'm getting 2.2 GHz speed. Gotta do better with this rig.

If the speed is indicated at 2.4GHz and the BIOS setting is on Auto, and the speed is determined by the CPU frequency times the multiplier, based on the data I just supplied, how did they arrive at the 2.4 GHz figure.

If the BIOS frequency setting is on "Auto", does it mean that the processor will respond to the demand adjusting automatically the frequency and the multiplier? If I wish to go up to around 3.2-3.4, what settings should I be in.

Note:  My PSU is 450W and my Case is adequately equipped with the necessary fans with option to install additional fans if necessary.

i have a 4600+ x2 as well, and u will b lucky to get it to 2.7ghz stable without upping the voltage, and a 450W psu is a bit under. 500w minimum mate (dependant on rails i know but i personaly wouldt touch anything below 500w these days)

u will also need a good make of RAM for overcloking

As the saying goes "If it aint broke, don't fix it". My mobo has a "LinkBoost Function" which is Disabled by default however it can be enabled if 7900GTX or 7950GX2 graphic cards is installed. Its a chipset feature designed to auto overclock to get a better performance. My card is an EVGA 7950 GT so I'm not sure if that is the same as the 7950GX2. Nonetheless, I'll leave it where it is.
